Aokiichthys toriyamai sp. nov.<br />

Diagnosis. It differs from other species of the genus Aokiichthys <strong>in</strong> hav<strong>in</strong>g the<br />

comb<strong>in</strong>ation of follow<strong>in</strong>g characters. The body is moderate and the body depth is<br />

conta<strong>in</strong>ed 3.0 to 3.7 times <strong>in</strong> the standard length. The median f<strong>in</strong>s are relatively<br />

posterior <strong>in</strong> position. The dorsal orig<strong>in</strong> is vertical with the anal orig<strong>in</strong>. The<br />

number ofpr<strong>in</strong>cipal dorsal f<strong>in</strong> rays is 9 to 12. The number ofpr<strong>in</strong>cipal anal f<strong>in</strong> rays<br />

is 18 to 20. The range ofsize is 34.8 to 74.9 mm <strong>in</strong> standard length. The number<br />

of vertebrae is 35 to 36, with 17 to 19 caudal vertebrae. The number of ribs is 14 to<br />

exposed, with the counter part ofthe anterior part ofthe body. The standard length<br />

is 40.2 mm. KMNH VP 100,162, an almost complete specimen with its right side<br />

exposed. The standard length is 72.8 mm. KMNH VP 100,163, an almost com<br />

plete specimen with its left side exposed, but a part ofdorsal f<strong>in</strong> and a posterior part<br />

of the lower lob of the caudal f<strong>in</strong> are miss<strong>in</strong>g. The standard length is 36.7 mm.<br />
