Direct / indirect shield earthing<br />

If the line shield cannot be directly earthed on both sides for technical<br />

reasons, one-sided indirect shield earthing might be advisable. This can<br />

be achieved by using arrester modules of type BXTU ML2 BD S 0-180. The<br />

lightning current carrying gas discharge tube in the protection module at<br />

terminal 3, 3’ prevents low-frequency compensating currents. Transient<br />

interference is thus discharged via indirect shield earthing.<br />

Connecting the lines to the base part<br />

Up to four lines can be connected on two levels. For DIN rail mounting<br />

purposes, lines of a pair belonging to each other are connected on top of<br />

one another.<br />

Accessory for EMC spring terminals<br />

In conjunction with the two-pole BXTU<br />

module, the terminals in the base part<br />

can be used for shield earthing. In particular<br />

in bus systems, it is advisable to<br />

use the EMC spring terminal for largearea<br />

connection of line shields to the<br />

equipotential bonding. Direct or indirect<br />

shield earthing can be implemented by<br />

means of the accessory supplied with<br />

EMC spring terminals.<br />

Safe installation of the arrester<br />

The function-optimised design of the arrester allows both to safely plug<br />

the protection module into the base part and to remove it without problems.<br />

The module is secured in the base part by snapping it in (audible<br />

click). When pressing the grey buttons, the module can be removed with<br />

little effort. This is ensured by the laminated spring contacts and the<br />

module release spring. A mechanical reverse voltage protection ensures<br />

that the module is installed in the correct position.<br />

LifeCheck monitoring function<br />

The LifeCheck function allows to easily and quickly test arresters without<br />

removing the module from the system circuit. Integrated into the protection<br />

modules, LifeCheck permanently monitors the status of the arrester.<br />

Like an early warning system, LifeCheck reliably detects potential electrical<br />

and thermal overload of the protection components. The LifeCheck<br />

status can be read out within a matter of seconds by means of<br />

DEHNrecord LC via contactless RFID technology. A stationary<br />

DEHNrecord MCM condition monitoring system allows status-oriented<br />

maintenance of 10 BXTU arresters.<br />
