Time for a
Kitchen Tea
Get Creative’s Facebook friends share
the following creative kitchen tea ideas:
“I’ve seen crocheted & knitted tea
sets. The crocheted one had little tea
cakes, crocheted cake stand & tiny
snacks. The knitted tea set just had tea &
a slice of cake.”
Irene Ho - Hamlyn Terrace, NSW
Manda Maczi credits her sisters - Fiona &
Teagan - from Soldiers Point, NSW, with
this idea: “A nice homemade recipe book
with recipes from the people who are
coming to the party (& even those that
can’t make it). My sisters made me one
for my kitchen tea & it was awesome.”
BASKET LINER
All baskets vary in shape and size.
This is a basic idea that will suit most
basket shapes. It will need to be
adjusted in measurements to suit the
particular basket used.
Materials
Medium basket with handle
Gingham fabric (45cm x 60cm)
Matching ribbon
Firm cardboard, pencil
Wadding & craft glue/hot glue gun
Tea towel
Scissors, pins, hand needle, tape
measure
Sewing machine, sewing thread
Iron
Step 1 To gauge what size fabric
piece is needed to line the basket,
place a tea towel inside the basket, in
the middle and pushed in all the way to
the bottom of the basket. Make note of
how much more or less in length and
width than the tea towel is needed to
line the basket.
Cut a piece of gingham fabric to the
tea towel measurements (making
adjustments where necessary) and add
2cm on each side for hem allowance.
Double hem fabric on all sides by
pressing under 1cm then another 1cm
then stitch in place. Press.
Step 2 To make the inner base of
the basket, trace the bottom of the
basket onto the cardboard and cut out
slightly smaller so it fits snuggly inside
the base of the basket.
