= skip; sl st = slip stitch; sp = space;
st/s = stitch/es; tr = treble; yoh =
yarn over hook; dec = decrease over
next 2 dc = (pull up lp in next st) twice,
yoh, pull through all 3 lps;
Instructions
Lining Row 1: Make 31ch.
Row 2: 1dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1dc
in each st to end, turn.
Row 3: 1ch, 1dc in each st to end, turn.
Rows 4-43: Repeat row 3.
Row 44: 1ch, 1dc in blp only in each st
to end, turn.
Outer Covering Row 45: 1dc,
2ch in 1st st, (1tr, 1htr in next st, sk
next st, 1dc, 2ch in next st) 9 times,
1tr, 1htr in next st, 1dc in last st, turn.
Row 46: 1dc, 2ch, 1tr, 1htr in 1st dc,
(1dc, 2ch, 1tr, 1htr in next 2-ch lp) 9
times, 1dc in last 2-ch lp, turn.
Rows 47-66: Repeat row 46.
Row 67: 1dc, 2ch in 1st dc, (1dc, 2ch,
1tr, 1htr in next 2-ch lp) 9 times, 1dc in
last 2-ch lp, turn.
Rows 68-74: Repeat row 67, turn.
Fasten off.
Bring the bottom of lining up to meet
the last row of body and sew both side
seams from the outside using a whip
stitch. Now fold the outer covering
back over the lining and pin in place.
Join yarn with a sl st into the bottom
right-hand corner and work a row of dc
up the right sides to seam the back
and front of the bag, then work across
the front flap before joining the left
seam in the same manner, turn the
work around and work another row of
dc back to give the bag a stable edge.
Fasten off and sew in all ends.
Flower Magic Circle (used when
you want a tight circle with no hole in
the middle) = wrap yarn twice around
your finger & work a sl st into the lp,
slip the lp off your finger and work the
first round into the ring (over the two
strands), sl st into 1st st when round is
finished, pull the yarn tail to tighten the
lp to create an invisible centre.
shell A = (1dc, 1htr, 2tr, 1htr, 1dc) in
same st;
shell B = (1dc, 1htr, 5tr, 1htr, 1dc) in
same st;
Rnd 1: 12dc into magic circle, sl st
into 1st dc.
Rnd 2: (1dc in next dc, 2ch, sk 1dc) 6
times, sl st in 1st 2-ch lp.
Rnd 3: shell A in same lp, (shell A in
next lp) 5 times, 1ch, working behind
the petals just made sl st into 1st
skipped dc of row 2.
Rnd 4: 1dc in same st, (3ch, 1dc in
next skipped dc) 5 times, 3ch, sl st
into 1st 3-ch lp.
Rnd 5: shell B in same lp, (shell B in
next lp) 5 times, fasten off.
Sew in all ends.
Sew flower to front flap of the bag.
Pop the potpourri inside the pouch
then sew closed along the base of
the flap. •
