COVERS
Materials per bolster
55cm x 45cm plain fabric in colour of
your choice
Two 55cm x 12cm pieces contrasting
fabric for ends (plus scrap for yo-yo’s)
60mm yo-yo maker
1.3m piping in matching colour
2 tassels
2 large buttons
Matching sewing thread
50cm x size 3 (3mm) cotton piping cord
Tape measure
Safety pin
Scissors
Sewing machine with zipper foot
Iron
Bolster cushion insert
cord then sew in place along the length
as close to the cord as possible using
the zipper foot on the sewing machine.
Step 3 Sew the covered piping
cord to the top of the cushion cover
with the raw edges aligned matching
the stripes of the fabric, then sew the
piping to the bottom in the same way.
Insert a zip along the back edge of the
side piece. With zip open slightly join
the top and bottom to the side section
matching the stripes where possible.
Turn through the open zip and insert
the foam cushion.
Note: Matching stripes can be difficult
for inexperienced sewers; if this is the
case choose fabrics without stripes.
Seat covers can also be made without
piping cord.
Step 1 To attach piping, place
piping on long end (55cm) on right side
of main fabric aligning raw edges so
the cord is facing inward. Pin in place
and using the zipper foot on the sewing
machine, stitch close to the cord.
Repeat on the opposite end.
Step 2 Finish one long (55cm) side
of each end piece with a 1cm folded
and stitched edge. Fold the edge over
again and stitch to form a small casing
for gathering later.
