<strong>Preparing</strong> NATO <strong>Correspondence</strong><br />
F–1. Purpose<br />
This appendix prescribes the format for the preparation of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) correspondence.<br />
It is based on St<strong>and</strong>ardization Agreement (STANAG) 2066, Format for Military <strong>Correspondence</strong> <strong>and</strong> Use of Abbreviations,<br />
<strong>and</strong> STANAG 1001, St<strong>and</strong>ardization System for Displaying Days <strong>and</strong> Hours in Relation to an Operation or<br />
Exercise.<br />
F–2. M<strong>and</strong>atory compliance<br />
The format for the preparation of NATO correspondence prescribed in this regulation is m<strong>and</strong>atory <strong>and</strong> no departure or<br />
deviation from this format is authorized.<br />
F–3. General<br />
a. Details of St<strong>and</strong>ardization Agreement. The details for STANAG 2066 <strong>and</strong> STANAG 1001 specify that the NATO<br />
Armed Forces will prepare military correspondence in accordance with the instructions contained in that Agreement.<br />
Military correspondence covered by the Agreement includes letters, memor<strong>and</strong>a, orders (except, Operation Orders <strong>and</strong><br />
Administrative/Logistic Orders), reports <strong>and</strong> papers but not message forms that are prescribed in Allied Communication<br />
Publications (ACPs).<br />
b. Optional procedures. Procedures concerning the preparation of correspondence that are not covered herein are<br />
optional with the originator of the correspondence.<br />
