<strong>Data</strong>base operation manual<br />
7.1 Definitions<br />
The following definitions should be applied to this document:<br />
Activation: The procedure to get case numbers range from central server<br />
according to the availability <strong>for</strong> each member state (499 total case numbers <strong>for</strong><br />
WP5.1 <strong>and</strong> 499 total case numbers <strong>for</strong> WP5.2).<br />
Activation User: The user <strong>of</strong> the “Input Application” who runs the Activation<br />
from the central server.<br />
Case Number: A unique identification number associated to each road <strong>accident</strong><br />
case <strong>and</strong> assigned automatically by the “Input Application”, at the moment <strong>of</strong><br />
creation <strong>of</strong> <strong>accident</strong> record in the database.<br />
<strong>Data</strong> Base Management System (DBMS): A s<strong>of</strong>tware package designed to<br />
store <strong>and</strong> manage databases.<br />
<strong>Data</strong> sniffing: The illegal monitoring <strong>of</strong> the in<strong>for</strong>mation passing through a<br />
computer network.<br />
<strong>Fatal</strong> <strong>accident</strong>: Injury <strong>accident</strong> in which at least one road user sustains a fatal<br />
injury.<br />
Incremental data backup: A mechanism <strong>of</strong> copying data where successive<br />
backups only contain the in<strong>for</strong>mation that changed since a previous backup.<br />
Input Application: The s<strong>of</strong>tware used <strong>for</strong> data entry, browsing <strong>and</strong> uploading<br />
<strong>of</strong> data <strong>of</strong> each member state.<br />
Local Area Network (LAN): The local computer network where the “Input<br />
Application” <strong>and</strong> the “Output Application” are visible.<br />
Output Application: The s<strong>of</strong>tware used <strong>for</strong> to downloading member state data<br />
from the central server.<br />
Road user: Person on the road. In this document, road user includes Vehicle<br />
occupant: Road user in or on a vehicle: all drivers, riders, passengers <strong>and</strong><br />
pedestrians.<br />
Shoe vehicle: This term refers to a pedestrian as a vehicle involved in<br />
<strong>accident</strong>.<br />
