The road user arrived at the hospital alive.<br />

The road user did not require medical treatment in a hospital. Code ‘No’ <strong>for</strong> road users who<br />

were taken to hospital despite dying on scene/en route.<br />

Code 1 day <strong>for</strong> evidence <strong>of</strong> hospital admittance not on the duration <strong>of</strong> stay, any hospital<br />

admittance = 1 day. For example if patient was admitted at 10am <strong>and</strong> left at 11am, code as 1<br />

day, likewise if a patient was admitted to hospital at 10am <strong>and</strong> died at 12pm this is also 1 day<br />

(although ‘Days until death’ (P97) will be 0 days).<br />

The casualty did not reach hospital alive or was not taken to hospital due to life being<br />

pronounced extinct at the scene or in transport on the way to hospital.<br />

The total number <strong>of</strong> days after the <strong>accident</strong> be<strong>for</strong>e the casualty dies. If the casualty died at<br />

the scene <strong>of</strong> the incident or on the way to hospital then code 0 days.<br />

One day is considered 24 hours after the time <strong>of</strong> the incident, if death occurs less than 24<br />

hours after the <strong>accident</strong> code 0 days.<br />

A record <strong>of</strong> the alcohol level <strong>for</strong> a specific road user in accordance with law. The level<br />

recorded will be above or equal to the legal limit. Note: to record alcohol levels below legal<br />

limits use ‘Impairment’ variable.<br />
