This refers to the stated speed limit on signs or other speed limit indicators.<br />
An example <strong>of</strong> another speed limit indicator applies to roads with 30mph (48kph) limits in the<br />
UK, these are <strong>of</strong>ten not signalised but use a system <strong>of</strong> equally spaced lampposts <strong>and</strong> no<br />
repeat speed limit signs to highlight this limit.<br />
-888 = Other<br />
-999 = Unknown<br />
R55 Type <strong>of</strong> speed limit 1 = Permanent<br />
2 = Temporary<br />
For reference:<br />
1mph = 1.61Kph<br />
1Kph = 0.621mph<br />
The speed limit shown on permanent roadway signs or through the use <strong>of</strong> other speed<br />
indicators remains the same irrespective <strong>of</strong> date, time or weather etc..<br />
The speed limit is altered at areas where additional protection is required to drivers or road<br />
workers. For example, road works, maintenance or construction sites.<br />
3 = Variable (dynamic)<br />
4 = Advisory<br />
The speed limit is increased or decreased during certain hours <strong>of</strong> the day or is modified<br />
depending on current traffic conditions, this could be used <strong>for</strong> rush hour or to alter vehicle<br />
speed prior to an <strong>accident</strong> scene.<br />
Advisory speed limit is <strong>of</strong>ten given <strong>for</strong> curves.<br />
