Mike Coates, Director of GBRW Consult<strong>in</strong>g: GBRW is a London-based<br />

consult<strong>in</strong>g firm focused on the bank<strong>in</strong>g sector <strong>in</strong> emerg<strong>in</strong>g markets. He is<br />

a former professional banker with extensive <strong>in</strong>ternational experience <strong>in</strong><br />

both f<strong>in</strong>ancial services and the consult<strong>in</strong>g environment. Mike specializes<br />

<strong>in</strong> strategy and plann<strong>in</strong>g, strategic market<strong>in</strong>g, and risk management for<br />

commercial banks. He has developed and delivered successful f<strong>in</strong>ancial<br />

sector assignments <strong>in</strong> markets <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g the Arab Republic of Egypt,<br />

Azerbaijan, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tajikistan,<br />

and Vietnam. He has a BSc <strong>in</strong> <strong>F<strong>in</strong>ancial</strong> Services awarded by the<br />

University of Manchester and is an Associate of the Chartered Institute<br />

Florence Dafe, Researcher, <strong>World</strong> Economy and <strong>Development</strong> F<strong>in</strong>ance<br />

Department, German <strong>Development</strong> Institute, Bonn: Florence is a political<br />

economist and researcher at the <strong>World</strong> Economy and <strong>Development</strong><br />

F<strong>in</strong>ance Department of the German <strong>Development</strong> Institute <strong>in</strong> Bonn. She<br />

holds an MSc <strong>in</strong> <strong>Development</strong> Studies with a specialization <strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>Development</strong> Economics and an MA <strong>in</strong> Communications, Politics and<br />

Economics from the University of Munich.<br />

Michael Fuchs, Advisor, F<strong>in</strong>ance and Private <strong>Sector</strong> Department, <strong>Africa</strong><br />

Region, <strong>World</strong> <strong>Bank</strong>: Michael has worked <strong>in</strong> the <strong>Africa</strong> Region s<strong>in</strong>ce 2003,<br />

focus<strong>in</strong>g on f<strong>in</strong>ancial sector development issues across a broad spectrum<br />

of countries. He worked for eight years <strong>in</strong> the <strong>Bank</strong>’s ECA Region, five of<br />

which were focused on Russia <strong>in</strong> the wake of the f<strong>in</strong>ancial collapse <strong>in</strong><br />

1998. He has a PhD and an MA from the University of Copenhagen and<br />

a BA from the University of York (UK).<br />

Rob<strong>in</strong> Hofmeister, <strong>F<strong>in</strong>ancial</strong> <strong>Sector</strong> Specialist, <strong>World</strong> <strong>Bank</strong>, Nigeria, and<br />

GIZ’s Pro-Poor Growth and Promotion of Employment Program: Before<br />

be<strong>in</strong>g seconded to the <strong>World</strong> <strong>Bank</strong>, he worked <strong>in</strong> GIZ’s program Promot<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>F<strong>in</strong>ancial</strong> <strong>Sector</strong> Dialogue <strong>in</strong> <strong>Africa</strong>: Mak<strong>in</strong>g F<strong>in</strong>ance Work for <strong>Africa</strong>,<br />

where he led the multidonor work<strong>in</strong>g group on agricultural f<strong>in</strong>ance.
