AN ACT<br />

To provide for the health and safety of persons employed in and about the anthracite<br />

coal mines of Pennsylvania and for the protection and preservation of<br />

property connected therewith.<br />

ARTICLE I.<br />

Section 1. Be it enacted, &c, That this act shall apply to every<br />

anthracite coal mine or colliery in the Commonwealth, provided the<br />

said mine or colliery employs more than ten (10)<br />

persons.<br />

ARTICLE II.<br />

Inspectors and Inspection Districts.<br />

Section 1. The counties of Susquehanna, Wayne, Luzerne, Lackawanna,<br />

Carbon, Schuylkill, Northumberland, Columbia, Lebanon and<br />

Dauphin, or so much of them as may be included under the provisions<br />

of this act, shall be divided into eight (8) inspection districts as<br />

follows:<br />

Section 2. First. All that portion of the Lackawanna coal field lying<br />

northeast of East and West Market streets in the city of Scranton,<br />

and of Slocum and Drinker streets in the borough of Dunmore,<br />

including the coal fields of Susquehanna and Wayne counties.<br />

Second. That portion of the Lackawanna coal field in Lackawanna<br />

county lying southwest of East and West Market streets in the city<br />

of Scranton, and west of Slocum and Drinker streets in the borough<br />

of Dunmore.<br />

Third. That portion of the Wyoming coal fields situated in Luzerne<br />

county, east of and including Plains and Kingston townships.<br />

Fourth.<br />

The remaining portion of the Wyoming coal field west of<br />

Plains and Kingston townships, including the city of Wilkes-Barre<br />

and the boroughs of Kingston and Edwardsville.<br />

Fifth. That part of Luzerne county lying south of the Wyoming<br />

coal field<br />

together with Carbon county.<br />

Sixth. That part of the Schuylkill coal field in Schuylkill county<br />

lying north of the Broad Mountain and east of a meridian line<br />

through the centre of the borough of Girardville.<br />

Seventh. That part of the Schuylkill coal field in Schuylkill county<br />

lying north of the Broad Mountain and west of a meridian line through
