It will be seen by referring to Table C that 1,794 persons lost their<br />

lives inside the Bituminous mines and 38 on the surface in the ten<br />

years from 1891 to <strong>1900</strong>. The occupations and percentage of those<br />

who lost their lives inside the mines were as follows: Mine foremen<br />

8, or 1 per cent.; miners 1,500, or 83.61 per cent.; company men 133,<br />

or 7.97 per cent.; drivers and runners 128, or 7.73 per cent.; door boys<br />

15, or 1 per cent. The total loss of life inside the Bituminous mines<br />

was 97.92 per cent., while on the surface it was 2.08 per cent.<br />

To make an intelligent comparison of the percentages of the occupations<br />

of persons who lost their lives inside of the Anthracite and<br />

Bituminous mines, the following table is here inserted:
