the accident. I was informed by the partner of the deceased that<br />

they sounded the slate a few minutes before it fell and considered<br />

it safe.<br />

Micheal Eignito, miner, was fatally injured in Acme mine December<br />

4th, by a fall of coal. The deceased was bearing in at the time<br />

of the accident. The place was very badly squeezed and the partner<br />

of the deceased suggested that they put a sprag under the<br />

coal, but the latter said he thought it was safe.<br />

John Rogan, miner, was instantly killed by a fall of coal and slate<br />

in Allen mine December 14th. The deceased and his partner were<br />

bearing in at the time of the accident, the former on the end of the<br />

butt and the latter next to the rib. A middle tight shot had shattered<br />

the butt and made it dangerous to work on but, this was not<br />

known by the deceased and his partner.<br />

John Hoodak, miner, was fatally injured in Vigilant mine December<br />

18th, by a fall of coal and slate. The deceased, at the time of<br />

the accident was drilling a hole for a blast; a clay vein passed<br />

nearby which was in part undermined, which fell off and caught<br />

the deceased, resulting as stated.<br />

Thomas Sabo, Hungarian, loader, was instantly killed by a fall of<br />

slate in Catsburg mine December 22d. At the time of the accident<br />

he was knocking coal from under some slate. Subsequent examination<br />

of the place showed that the deceased had shown very little<br />

practical judgment in the working of their room.
