Leader No. 1 and 2.—Had very fair ventilation during the year,<br />

but there was local defects in drainage in No. 2 and lower drift.<br />

Victor No. 2 and 3 Mines.—Have separate tipples delivering coal<br />

to the same railroad cars, were in fair condition but had only eight<br />

men in each opening on my last visit.<br />

Kentuck Mine.—Had a local defect in ventilation; drainage fair.<br />

Meadowbrook Mine.—Ventilation was very fair for the number of<br />

men employed, but there were some local defects in drainage and<br />

the lnanwa}- needed some repairs which I called the forman's attention<br />

to.<br />

Davis Mines.—On old Coaldale No. 5 property, is in fair condition<br />

both in ventilation and drainage.<br />

Birdseye Mine.—Air rather defective at the face of solid workings,<br />

but there were only nine men employed on my last visit. Drainage<br />

was in fair condition.<br />

London Mine.—Is a small operation. The ventilation and drainage,<br />

however, were in good condition.<br />

Highland Mine.—Was well ventilated for the few men employed,<br />

and is naturally dry.<br />

Banion Slope.—Had fair ventilation for the few men employed,<br />

but has not been worked very steadily during the year, and with<br />

a small number of men. Drainage was neglected.<br />

Porter Run Mine.—Was formerly Belsena No. 4, and had very fair<br />

ventilation, but there are local defects in drainage.<br />

McCartney Mine.—Has changed owners during the year and could<br />

Lave been better ventilated by the former operators. The drainage<br />

was in fair condition.<br />

Imperial No. 1.—Air was defective in Galbraith heading, and part<br />

of the men were ordered out of their places until sufficient air should<br />

be supplied. There were also some defects in drainage.<br />

Black Diamond No. 2.—Vntilation and drainage were in very fair<br />

condition.<br />

Centre County Mines.<br />

Eureka No. 21.—Ventilation was weak at face of No. 2 left heading<br />

owing to broken canvas ; other places were very fair. Drainage had<br />

unavoidable defects caused by soft bottom, and numerous springs<br />

of water.<br />

Ophir Mine.—Air was found defective at the face of the sixth and<br />

seventh headings, other places were very fair. Drainage was also in<br />

fair condition.<br />

Phoenix Mine.—Ventilation and drainage were in very fair condition.<br />

Electric Mine.—Ventilation and drainage were in fair condition for<br />

the number of men employed on my last visit.
