Staffordshire Mine.— In the 1st and 2d left heading the air was<br />

defective from leaky brattice, which I called the official's attention<br />

to. Drainage was very fair.<br />

Midvale No. 1.—Air very fair. Drainage had local defects.<br />

Midvale No. 2.—Air rather weak in new drift. Other places very<br />

Drainage some unavoidable defects.<br />

Henderson No. 2.—When doors are completed air will be very fair<br />

fair.<br />

Moshannon No. 1.—The ventilation was in very fair condition except<br />

at one point which on the day of my visit they expected to connect<br />

Forest Mine.—Was well ventilated and drained during the year.<br />

Hobson Mine.—Was in very condition and had only 9 men employed<br />

the greater part of the year.<br />

Mapleton Mine.—Was well ventilated and drained.<br />

Mt. Vernon No. 7.—Air in very fair condition, but there was defective<br />

drainage on haulage roads which the foreman was requested to<br />

improve.<br />

Mt. Vernon No. 11.—Is a new operation and on D seam of coal.<br />

Was ordered to be improved by making proper airways.<br />

Whiteside No. 1 and 2.—The air was weak on my last visit, but<br />

has been ventilated by a furnace, and is well drained.<br />

Mountz Mine.—Air was very weak and only a few men were employed.<br />

there were only nine men employed. Drainage was very fair.<br />

Schwinn Mine.—Has been re-opened and a new drift put in by a<br />

new firm which has bought the property, which I think will be kept<br />

in a very fair condition.<br />

Union No. 1 and 5.—The former is only a small operation with 4 or<br />

5 men employed. No. 5 is a new opening on crop coal left by other<br />

abandoned mines.<br />

Shoff No. 2.—Ventilation and drainage has been very fair during<br />

the year.<br />

Loraine Mine.—On my last visit I ordered all places stopped in the<br />

first left heading in the lower drift until the brattice was properly<br />

built to conduct the air to the working places. Drainage was poor.<br />

Reading Mine.— Ventilation was in very fail- condition for number<br />

of men employed; drainage fair.<br />

Parks Mine.—Ventilation and drainage were in good condition.<br />

Phoenix.—A new operation on old Coaldale No. '.\ property; the<br />

drainage and ventilation were found in very fair condition.<br />

Madeira Mine.— Is ;i new operation on K seam of coal, with a gasoline<br />

pump for drainage and furnace for ventilation, which was in very<br />

fair condition.<br />
