Superintendent. The term "superintendent" means the person<br />

who shall have, on behalf of the operator, immediate supervision of<br />

one or more mines.<br />

Bituminous Mines. The term "bituminous" coal mines shall include<br />

all<br />

coal mines in the State not now included in the anthracite<br />

boundaries.<br />

The provisions of this act shall not apply to any mine employing<br />

less than ten persons in any one period of twenty-four hours.<br />

Section 1.<br />

ARTICLE XXIII.<br />

That all acts or parts of acts inconsistent herewith be<br />

and the same are hereby repealed.<br />

AN ACT<br />

Equalizing and fixing the compensation and mileage of the members of the several<br />

boards appointed under the provisions of the act approved June second,<br />

one thousand eight hundred and ninety-one, to examine candidates for appointment<br />

as Inspectors, foremen and fire bosses, respectively, in the anthracite<br />

coal mines, and providing for the employment and compensation and mileage<br />

of a clerk to each of said boards.<br />

Section 1. Be it enacted, &c., That from and after the passage of<br />

this act the members of the several boards appointed under the provisions<br />

of the act approved June second, one thousand eight hundred<br />

and ninety-one, to examine candidates for appointment respectively<br />

as inspectors and foremen of anthracite coal mines, shall<br />

receive<br />

in lieu of all compensation, mileage, expenses, emoluments or<br />

allowances heretofore paid them, as follows:<br />

Six dollars per day for<br />

each day during which the said members shall be actually in attendance<br />

on the sessions of the board, and mileage at the rate of<br />

five cents for each mile actually traveled going from the home of the<br />

member to the place of meeting of the board and returning from said<br />

place to his said home by the shortest practicable railway route:<br />

Provided, That mileage shall be paid but once for each continuous<br />

session of the board, and by a continuous session shall be meant a<br />

session during the course of which no adjournment for a longer<br />

period than forty-eight hours shall take place.<br />

Section 2. Each of the boards enumerated or described in the first<br />

section of this act shall be and the same is hereby authorized to employ<br />

a clerk, whose compensation and mileage shall be the same as<br />

that of a member of the board. So much of section four of the act
