Description of the Fatal Accidents.<br />

Ge<strong>org</strong>e Ferick, was instantly killed at Moravian mine January<br />

12tn. He was going to work in the mine, and a loaded trip<br />

was coming out, and despite the warning of the driver he jumped on<br />

the trip, and in some way he fell off between the cars. The accident<br />

was due to carelessness on the part of the deceased.<br />

No. 2. Benedetto Devicia was killed by a fall of coal at Delaney<br />

mine March 21st. Devicia and his butty were making an undercut<br />

and had it mined to a depth of about two feet when the coal fell<br />

upon him injuring him so severely that he died twenty minutes afterward.<br />

They had no sprags set, and the accident was due to their<br />

own negligence.<br />

No. 3. Ge<strong>org</strong>e Glass was killed by a fall of slate in National No. 2<br />

mine, April 16th. He was loading a car when a piece of slate fell<br />

from a slip in the roof which killed him instantly. This accident<br />

was due to neglect on the part of the deceased and his partner, as<br />

the props were not up to the face.<br />

No. 4. Kichard Sinclair, driver, was killed by falling off the front<br />

of his trip of loaded cars. He was driving from one sidetrack to<br />

another, and while engaged in bringing the trip and riding on the<br />

front end, he fell off. From the evidence, I considered it an unavoidable<br />

accident.<br />

No. 5. John Ruby was killed by a fall of coal at Robertsdale slope,<br />

April 27th. He was engaged in mining from one slip to the other<br />

and the coal fell and his neck was broken. He had no sprags under<br />

the coal, and the accident was due to carelessness on his part.<br />

No. 6. Joseph Kanir was killed by a fall of coal at Knox Run mine<br />

June 30th. .He and his companion had fired a shot that brought<br />

down a portion of the coal, which they loaded out, and then Kanir<br />

lay down under the loose end without setting any sprags, and the<br />

coal fell upon him. The accident was due to his carelessness in not<br />

spragging the coal.<br />

No. 7. Mike Duditch was killed by a fall of coal at Sugar Camp<br />

No. 3 mine, July 6th. He was shoveling out the bottom bench of<br />

coal, when the top bench fell from a slip and killed him. There were<br />

no props set under the top bench, and as the room was going toward<br />

the crop the slips ran through the coal, and it was from one of these<br />

that the coal fell. They were careless in not having had props<br />

under the top bench of coal.<br />

No. 8. Ge<strong>org</strong>e Nail was killed by a fall of rock at Kearney mine<br />

July 23. He and a companion were working a room, and a roll came<br />

iu the roof making it so low that the mine car could not pass under<br />

it, and the mine foreman gave orders for it to be shot down, and Nail<br />

called in the chairman of the pit committee to consult with him in re-
