<strong>An</strong> <strong>Unhealthy</strong> <strong>America</strong><strong>Milken</strong> <strong>Institute</strong>HypertensionProjections for the 2023 data show hypertension remaining concentrated in the same regions as in 2003, the Southeastand Appalachian states.Under the baseline scenario, hypertension PRC share shows increases in all states in 2023, with Tennessee droppingfrom 5 th to 10 th . Florida ranks 4 th , moving up from 8 th in 2003. <strong>The</strong> bottom five states are fairly consistent, with NewMexico moving from 4 th place in 2003 to 8 th in 2023. Hawaii moves from 8 th in 2003 to 4 th in 2023. Under the optimisticscenario, only Mississippi (1 st ), Vermont (27 th ), Wyoming (37 th ), New Mexico (43 rd ), and Arizona (44 th ) show an increase inPRC share, with the other forty-five states showing slight declines. In projected expenditures, Delaware, West Virginia,Kentucky, and Mississippi rank as the top four states, despite Kentucky ranking 7 th and Delaware 11 th in terms <strong>of</strong> PRCshare <strong>of</strong> population.
