Foundations of Historical Linguistics:Dynamics of Hunter-Gatherer Language ChangeSaturday, 5 January and Sunday, 6 January9:00 AM – 6:00 PMHarvard Room (Third Floor)Foundations of Historical Linguistics is a workshop being held in conjunction with the 2013 AnnualMeeting of the Linguistic Society of America (LSA). It brings together an international group of scholarswith expertise in a range of fields that relate to the study of language change, and does so in a setting thatallows for presentation and discussion of cutting-edge research. It is organized by Claire Bowern (Yale)and Bethwyn Evans (ANU).Presentations at the workshop, which form the basis of the forthcoming Routledge Handbook of HistoricalLinguistics, encompass the state of the field of historical linguistics, the methods which underpin currentwork, models of language change, and the importance of historical linguistics for other subfields oflinguistics and other disciplines.
