Many of the service liberalization, trade and investmentfacilitation measures contained in Supplement VIII to CEPAannounced in December 2011 were taken from the Chamber’sCEPA wish list.In addition to our efforts to facilitate business, we submitted35 position papers covering a wide range of issues. TheCompetition Bill occupied the lion’s share of our policy division’stime. I would particularly like to thank members of theExpert Working Group for all their hard work and time thatthey dedicated to present sound reasoning to the Governmentto revise the bill and maintain Hong Kong’s competitiveness.Connecting BusinessesIn addition to our advocacy work, 2011 was also a good yearfor your Chamber on the activities front, as we supported businessesthrough our networking, information and educationprogrammes. We called on officials in the Mainland, includingState Councillor Liu Yandong, during our visit to Beijing.We also organized town hall forums and cocktail receptionsto help members expand their networks. Our MembershipDivision launched a number of lifestyle events, ranging fromgolf to hiking to coffee appreciation for members. In short,we realize that everyone has different expectations from theChamber, and we are listening to your suggestions, so pleasekeep them coming.I hope you will help the Chamber continue togrow and prosper and make a positive contributionto the community in which welive and do business.
