所有 經 濟 體 都 視 創 新 和 科 技 為 提 升 競 爭力 和 促 進 發 展 的 重 要 範 疇 。2009年 , 行 政 長 官 曾 蔭 權 在 施 政 報 告 中 公布 , 支 持 發 展 六 大 優 勢 產 業 , 以 振 興 本 港 經濟 , 其 中 兩 大 產 業 為 「 科 技 創 新 」 和 「 文 化 創意 」。 表 面 上 , 有 人 或 會 認 為 有 關 工 作 仍 然 無甚 進 展 。 但 是 在 香 港 科 技 大 學 ( 科 大 ), 研 究人 員 和 學 生 正 不 斷 開 拓 科 技 創 新 的 界 限 。為 了 解 該 校 科 技 的 商 業 應 用 ,22 位 總 商 會會 員 在 5 月 3 日 到 訪 科 大 。 在 工 業 及 科 技 委 員會 主 席 余 國 賢 的 帶 領 下 , 會 員 參 觀 了 該 校 的 材料 測 試 實 驗 室 、 環 境 控 制 測 試 實 驗 所 、 多 媒 體技 術 研 究 中 心 , 以 及 頭 髮 驗 毒 實 驗 室 。余 先 生 表 示 , 香 港 必 須 增 強 創 新 科 技 的 專業 知 識 , 並 讚 揚 科 大 是 提 升 本 港 未 來 競 爭 力 的推 動 力 。Energy Saving Construction Materials節 能 建 築 材 料In Hong Kong, buildings are responsible for 89% of our electricityconsumption. For a typical office building, air conditioning is the largestenergy guzzler, consuming nearly half (48%) of the total energy. Withincreasing concerns about greenhouse gas emissions from electricitygeneration and rising energy costs, demand for better thermal insulation inbuilding enclosures has drastically increased over the past few years.The Nano and Advanced Materials Institute Limited, and Department ofCivil and Environmental Engineering, Hong Kong University of Science andTechnology, have been working hard to improve thermal insulation ofcomposite wall panels. It has developed a foam concrete which it hopes willreplace normal weight concrete. However, while the high porosity of theconcrete decreased the thermal conductivity, it also reduces its strength. Toaddress this, it is investigating ways to improve the foamed concrete’sstrength.
