A number of those who will require housing havemultiple disabilities and it will be important that the full range of their needs is assessed andmet. The working group found that over 4,000 people lived in congregated settings in 2008of which 93% had an intellectual disability as their primary disability and 7% had a physicaldisability. A breakdown of these congregated settings by location and number of residentsis set out in Table 10.2 107 .106An intentional community is a planned residential community designed to promote a much higher degree ofsocial interaction than other communities. The members of an intentional community typically hold a commonsocial, cultural, political or spiritual vision. They also share responsibility and resources. In the Irish context,intentional communities include Camphill Community and L’Arche Community.107The number of residents and location is based on a survey carried out in 2008 as part of the HSE Review ofCongregated Settings. Since 2008 the numbers residing in such settings have been reduced to approximately3,600 and the HSE has plans in place to move a further 50 people to community based settings in <strong>2011</strong>.127
