Living arrangements of people <strong>with</strong> disabilities4.6 Census data shows that of the total population of people <strong>with</strong> a disability in Ireland,345,024 live in permanent accommodation 15 , 38,861 live in communal accommodation and9,900 live in temporary 16 accommodation. The majority of people living in communalaccommodation are either living in nursing/children’s homes (48%) or in hospitals (33%).4.7 The Congregated Settings Report, published by the HSE in June <strong>2011</strong> has found thatover 4,000 people live in congregated settings 17 , i.e. institutional accommodation <strong>with</strong> morethan 10 residents. Of these individuals, 93% have an intellectual disability as their primarydisability and 7% have a physical disability.4.8 The Census provides a profile of the type of housing occupancy of people <strong>with</strong>disabilities in Ireland.
