Jimmy is living a fulfilled life and isconstantly building his independence. He enjoys living <strong>with</strong> others, and at this time has noambition to live alone; however he is quite independent of the group when he wishes tobe. His support needs are intense when he meets a new challenge, but on the whole he isvery capable of going about his daily life <strong>with</strong> little support.Conclusions10.24 The HSE Congregated Settings Report proposes a phased transfer of people <strong>with</strong>intellectual and/or physical disabilities from institutional care to more appropriate communitybased settings. This will pose a significant challenge <strong>for</strong> the stakeholders involved in thedelivery of services and must be managed <strong>with</strong>in a multi agency framework to ensure thatthe needs of people transitioning from congregated settings are fully reflected in theplanning process.10.25 Many adults <strong>with</strong> intellectual disabilities live in a home setting. Longer termstrategies are required to ensure that the future housing needs of these people are fullyaddressed and will require strengthened and more effective liaison between relevantsupport agencies.135135
