Electives<br />
An elective chosen by <strong>the</strong> student and normally not more than three (3) credits which must be approved by<br />
<strong>the</strong> MScN Coordinator and <strong>the</strong> Head (or her/his designate) in <strong>the</strong> Department where <strong>the</strong> elective is sought.<br />
The elective can be taken on any campus <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> UWI or in ano<strong>the</strong>r <strong>University</strong> with comparable education and<br />
with <strong>the</strong> necessary approval from both UWI and <strong>the</strong> selected <strong>University</strong>, and at <strong>the</strong> students expense. An<br />
elective can be taken in any semester or during <strong>the</strong> summer<br />

Course Description:<br />

NE60A The course exposes postgraduate students to advanced and current practices in caring for children and<br />
adolescents during specific <strong>the</strong> growth development episodes along <strong>the</strong> life cycle.<br />
Students gain beginning prescriptive skills, pr<strong>of</strong>iciency in using <strong>the</strong> nursing process and documentation system<br />
through three (3) days weekly direct preceptored interaction with clients/patients and <strong>the</strong>ir families and to be<br />
enabled to practice at an advanced nursing level. Students are preceptored 1:1 practicum provides ongoing<br />
guidance and assessment <strong>of</strong> clinical practice focusing on caring, critical thinking, clinical judgment, problem<br />
solving and documentation.<br />
NE60B The student for four (4) days weekly engages in a more extensive continuation <strong>of</strong> Practicum 1 with<br />
more independent and less closely monitored preceptorship and assessments. The student increasingly under-<br />
takes responsibility for a client/patient load on a daily basis.<br />
