Objectives<br />

To provide training that will equip graduates with <strong>the</strong> necessary knowledge, analytical, communication and research<br />

skills to be capable <strong>of</strong>:<br />

1) assessing food and nutrition needs at <strong>the</strong> individual, community and national levels<br />

2) critically evaluating research and o<strong>the</strong>r nutrition information in order to provide accurate and current information<br />

to <strong>the</strong> general public and persons in <strong>the</strong> education and health sectors<br />

3) providing appropriate nutritional advice in both clinical and public health settings<br />

4) utilizing evidence based methodology to inform policy and programme design and implementation and contribute<br />

to <strong>the</strong> research agenda in <strong>the</strong>ir countries<br />

Entry Requirements:<br />

Applicants must be graduates <strong>of</strong> approved Universities with a minimum <strong>of</strong> a lower second class honours or<br />

equivalent degree in Natural <strong>Sciences</strong>, Social <strong>Sciences</strong>, Agriculture or o<strong>the</strong>r subjects acceptable to <strong>the</strong> Faculty<br />

<strong>of</strong> Medicine.<br />

Duration <strong>of</strong> programme: 15 months full-time<br />

Programme Structure:<br />

The Masters programme is comprised <strong>of</strong> four courses followed by a six-month research project (TU680). The<br />

first two courses, Concepts and Principles <strong>of</strong> Nutritional <strong>Sciences</strong> (TU60A) and Essentials <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Scientific<br />

Method (TU61A) are taught in <strong>the</strong> first semester while Public Health Nutrition (TU60B) and Clinical Nutrition<br />

(TU61B) are taught in <strong>the</strong> second semester.<br />
