Course Description: This course is designed to introduce<br />
new graduate students to <strong>the</strong> main elements<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> research process, many <strong>of</strong> which are taken<br />
for granted. The course will ground <strong>the</strong> students in<br />
concepts such as research methodology (especially<br />
in developing and proving hypo<strong>the</strong>ses), reviewing<br />
literature, and presentation <strong>of</strong> material, statistical<br />
analyses to determine significance, pr<strong>of</strong>essional research<br />
ethics, biochemical calculations and separation<br />
techniques. The course will also introduce <strong>the</strong><br />
students to bioinformatics.<br />

Programme Objectives:<br />
On completion <strong>of</strong> this programme students are expected<br />
to:<br />
1. Demonstrate an understanding <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> areas that<br />
are essential to forensic science<br />
2. Apply basic forensic science concepts to problem<br />
solving necessary for success in a modern<br />
forensic science laboratory<br />
3.Demonstrate pr<strong>of</strong>essional values, concepts and<br />
ethics<br />
4.Provide expert testimony in <strong>the</strong> court<br />
5. Demonstrate integration <strong>of</strong> knowledge and skills<br />
through a variety <strong>of</strong> experiences and tools such<br />
as comprehensive examinations, <strong>the</strong>sis, and<br />
research project.<br />
Entry Requirements<br />
The minimal admission criteria for <strong>the</strong> program are<br />
outlined below:<br />
i. BSc degree with a minimal cumulative GPA <strong>of</strong> 2.0<br />
(Lower Second Class Honours) from a recognized<br />
post-secondary institutionor<br />
ii. <strong>Medical</strong> Degree (Candidates for Forensic<br />
Pathology and Anthropology)<br />
The following coursework must have been passed<br />
at <strong>the</strong> undergraduate level:<br />
i. Two semesters <strong>of</strong> Level-1 Chemistry. Two<br />
semesters <strong>of</strong> Level-2 Chemistry (including Ana<br />
lytical Chemistry) for candidates intending to pur<br />
sue Forensic Chemistry.<br />
ii. One semester <strong>of</strong> Statistics/Biostatistics.<br />
iii.Two semesters <strong>of</strong> Level-1 Biology/Genetics<br />
