Course Description:<br />
Part I (Year 1): During this period, which lasts twelve<br />
months, <strong>the</strong> students work as a psychiatric resident<br />
at an approved general hospital. Instruction is given<br />
in <strong>the</strong> Basic <strong>Medical</strong> <strong>Sciences</strong> (including Anatomy,<br />
Physiology) as well as in Psychology and<br />
Psychiatry.<br />
Part II (Year 2): Entry to <strong>the</strong> second part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
course will depend on a satisfactory performance in<br />
<strong>the</strong> Part I examination.<br />
During this period which lasts twelve months, <strong>the</strong> students<br />
work as a psychiatric resident at an approved<br />
general hospital. Instruction is given in Neurology,<br />
Psychology and Psychiatry.<br />
During <strong>the</strong> first half <strong>of</strong> Year 2 <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> programme, <strong>the</strong><br />
Student will submit to <strong>the</strong> Specialty Board through<br />
his/her supervisor, a proposal for a project to be undertaken<br />
during Part III <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> programme.<br />
Part III (Year 3):<br />
Admission to Part III <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> programme depends upon<br />
<strong>the</strong> students performance in <strong>the</strong> Part 2 examination.<br />
During Part III, <strong>the</strong> candidate is required to spend six<br />
months working in an approved psychiatric service<br />
and at least twelve months working in <strong>the</strong> psychiatric<br />
services <strong>of</strong> an approved general hospital.<br />
At least six months <strong>of</strong> this year must be spent in <strong>the</strong><br />
Caribbean during this period. At <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> time<br />
period, students may submit a Case Book or Research<br />
Report.<br />
Part IV (Year 4)<br />
During this year <strong>the</strong> student continues to work under<br />
supervision in an approved psychiatric service.<br />
