outcomes. The course assists students to effectively<br />

use <strong>the</strong> nursing and medical processes in<br />

identifying deviations through health assessment,<br />

formulation <strong>of</strong> l diagnoses, selection and interpretation<br />

<strong>of</strong> diagnostic investigations, planning, implementation<br />

and evaluation <strong>of</strong> appropriate treatment<br />

regimes. Students are facilitated to integrate critical<br />

thinking, developing <strong>the</strong> clinical skills, clinical judgment<br />

and decision-making ability necessary for ethical<br />

advanced nursing practice.<br />

NE62A This course enables students to gain criti-<br />

cal thinking skills in critiquing research findings and<br />

to decide on <strong>the</strong> best evidence in making decisions<br />

in nursing practice. It exposes students to a variety<br />

<strong>of</strong> research designs and <strong>the</strong>ir application to nursing<br />

practice. Emphasis is placed on quantitative and<br />

qualitative research principles, research methods<br />

and <strong>the</strong> application to evidence-based practice in<br />

nursing phenomena and <strong>the</strong> importance <strong>of</strong> research<br />

in advancing nursing practice.<br />

NE62B Students will refine <strong>the</strong> project proposal developed<br />

to address a specific nursing project in<br />

NE62A, (Research Methods applied to Nursing) collect<br />

and analyze data and write a project report.<br />

NE63A The primary focus <strong>of</strong> this course is <strong>the</strong><br />

growth and development <strong>of</strong> individuals along <strong>the</strong> life<br />

cycle. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking and <strong>the</strong><br />

acquisition <strong>of</strong> evidence-based knowledge and skills<br />

in determining normal physical characteristics and<br />

behaviours. A substantial portion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> course will<br />

be devoted to transferring <strong>the</strong>ory to practice. Practical<br />

experiences will be gained at major hospitals and<br />

selected care centres.<br />

NE63B Students are enabled to integrate <strong>the</strong>ory<br />

and clinical practice, develop critical thinking skills<br />

and demonstrate clinical judgment in analyzing patient<br />

problems. A forum for developing leadership<br />

and initiating change is also facilitated. Students will<br />

reflect on and discuss <strong>the</strong>ir practice in terms <strong>of</strong> interviewing,<br />

assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention,<br />

documentation, evaluation, knowledge gaps,<br />

problems encountered, actual or potential resolutions.<br />

NE63C This course exposes post graduate students<br />

current <strong>the</strong>ories development and substruction and<br />

<strong>the</strong> use <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>oretical frameworks and principles in<br />

guiding nursing practice. It assists students to integrate<br />

evidence based <strong>the</strong>oretical models and <strong>the</strong><br />

nursing process in decision-making for quality care<br />

<strong>of</strong> persons throughout <strong>the</strong> life cycle and along <strong>the</strong><br />

wellness-illness continuum. The course enables students<br />

to become pr<strong>of</strong>icient in comprehensive subjective<br />

and objective assessment <strong>of</strong> persons along <strong>the</strong><br />

life cycle as <strong>the</strong> foundation for caring and delivery <strong>of</strong><br />

quality nursing practice. Students will benefit from<br />

demonstration and supervised return demonstration<br />

in physical examination. Competency in physical examination<br />

will be accomplished through use <strong>of</strong> simulators<br />

and practice with peers.<br />
