Course Description:<br />
The DM Chemical Pathology programmes is a four<br />
year graduate course which aim to provide <strong>the</strong> graduate<br />
with <strong>the</strong> knowledge and skills to function as a<br />
consultant Chemical Pathologist and Laboratory<br />
Manager, equipped for independent practice in hospital-based<br />
and stand-alone clinical laboratories.<br />
Additional Information/Notes:<br />
During <strong>the</strong> programme, students will be expected to<br />
teach undergraduate medical students and o<strong>the</strong>r allied<br />
pr<strong>of</strong>essionals and to present <strong>the</strong> research work<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> department at learned conferences locally and<br />
internationally.<br />

Rationale<br />
The Caribbean region is in nutrition transition with<br />
increasing incidence <strong>of</strong> nutrition related chronic diseases<br />
while nutritional deficiencies persist. In addition,<br />
<strong>the</strong> peoples <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> region are increasingly targeted<br />
and influenced by nutrition information from<br />
a variety <strong>of</strong> sources <strong>of</strong> varying accuracy. Within this<br />
context it is essential to have a cadre <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essionals<br />
with a clear understanding <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> scientific bases<br />
<strong>of</strong> nutrition and its application at <strong>the</strong> individual, community<br />
and national levels. The Masters <strong>of</strong> <strong>Sciences</strong><br />
in Nutrition programme will provide students with a<br />
comprehensive core knowledge <strong>of</strong> nutrition and an<br />
awareness <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> interface with o<strong>the</strong>r disciplines, to<br />
equip <strong>the</strong>m with <strong>the</strong> necessary range <strong>of</strong> skills to ad-<br />
