impact <strong>of</strong> current health care polices upon <strong>the</strong> health<br />

status <strong>of</strong> individuals. The importance <strong>of</strong> effective information<br />

management on quality operations and<br />

strategic decision making in health care delivery will<br />

also be explored.<br />

NE67C This course follows NE 67B Models <strong>of</strong> Nurs-<br />

ing/Health Care Administration and explores contemporary<br />

practice issues within <strong>the</strong> framework <strong>of</strong><br />

managing Caribbean nursing/health care delivery<br />

systems. It critically analyzes trends in managing<br />

quality nursing/ health care practice issues within<br />

<strong>the</strong> context <strong>of</strong> ethical, bio-ethical, economic and legislative<br />

parameters.<br />

The course fur<strong>the</strong>r highlights roles and responsibili-<br />

ties <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Nurse Administrator in developing initia-<br />

tives for implementing, monitoring and evaluating<br />

evidence-based nursing research and practice. Emphasis<br />

is placed on <strong>the</strong> roles and responsibilities <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Nurse Administrator in evidence-based implementation<br />

<strong>of</strong> suitable management strategies. Additionally,<br />

it gives prominence to critical thinking in examining<br />

<strong>the</strong> dynamic impact <strong>of</strong> health sector reform<br />

on nursing and health care delivery internationally,<br />

regionally and locally.<br />

NE67D The design <strong>of</strong> this course provides a wide<br />

perspective <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong>ories and principles <strong>of</strong> human<br />

resource management and <strong>the</strong>ir application to nursing/health<br />

care. It introduces students to <strong>the</strong> most<br />

relevant issues in personnel and human resource<br />

management and critically examines <strong>the</strong> nurse man-<br />

agers roles in enhancing <strong>the</strong> growth and development<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> human capital in nursing. Issues <strong>of</strong> employee<br />

appraisal and discipline, union management<br />

relations and quality management are addressed.<br />

NE67E This course provides students with planned<br />

opportunities to apply evidence-based knowledge<br />

from <strong>the</strong> managerial sciences into nursing administrative<br />

practice. It provides opportunities for learners<br />

to gain competence and experiences in use <strong>of</strong> administrative<br />

techniques, methods and management<br />

concepts, <strong>the</strong>ories, and principles in a variety <strong>of</strong> institutions<br />

and health agencies. Emphasis is placed<br />

on critical thinking and <strong>the</strong> integration and transfer<br />

<strong>of</strong> evidence based knowledge to practice and <strong>the</strong><br />

development <strong>of</strong> nursing administrative competence<br />

to meet <strong>the</strong> challenges <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Caribbean and global<br />

trends.<br />

NE68A The course enables students to explore cur-<br />

rent educational concepts, <strong>the</strong>ories and principles<br />

and <strong>the</strong>ir application to nursing education within <strong>the</strong><br />

Caribbean context. The appropriateness <strong>of</strong> educational<br />

models is analyzed to develop students<br />

critical thinking skills and in <strong>the</strong> process <strong>of</strong> applying<br />

evidence based teaching and learning in nursing<br />

education. Emphasis is placed on self directed<br />

learning, experiential learning, adult learning and <strong>the</strong><br />

designing <strong>of</strong> teaching/learning models and teaching<br />

plans, that enable transfer <strong>of</strong> educational principles<br />

in <strong>the</strong> teaching <strong>of</strong> nursing learners along <strong>the</strong> learners<br />

life cycle.<br />
