These can be selected from existing courses <strong>of</strong>fered<br />
across <strong>the</strong> UWI or from courses <strong>of</strong>fered by o<strong>the</strong>r<br />
universities and that are approved by <strong>the</strong> Graduate<br />
Board.<br />
Health across <strong>the</strong> lifespan<br />
Course Description: This course introduces and examines<br />
<strong>the</strong> principles which guide growth and development<br />
<strong>of</strong> individuals across <strong>the</strong> lifespan, from<br />
conception through childhood, adolescence, adult-<br />
hood and to <strong>the</strong> elderly. Also examines <strong>the</strong> major<br />
determinants and facilitators <strong>of</strong> optimal health within<br />
each stage. The epidemiology <strong>of</strong> disease within<br />
each stage and <strong>the</strong> interdependence <strong>of</strong> each stage<br />
will also be reviewed.<br />
Social and Cultural Determinants <strong>of</strong> Health<br />
Course Description: In this course participants explore<br />
how social science disciplines are useful in analyzing<br />
and solving public health challenges. Structural<br />
violence as a social force will be examined. The<br />
relationship between <strong>the</strong>se health determinants and<br />
public health interventions will be explored. The principles<br />
<strong>of</strong> behaviour change communication will be<br />
