2.4Climate change in <strong>Australia</strong>:Implications for populationDon GunasekeraDr Don Gunasekera is currently a Senior Economist at CSIRO (CommonwealthScientific <strong>and</strong> Industrial Research Organisation) in Canberra. Until recently he wasthe Chief Economist at the <strong>Australia</strong>n Bureau of Agricultural <strong>and</strong> Resource Economics(ABARE). In 2008, Don led ABARE’s climate change modelling work for the GarnautClimate Change Review. In 2007, he was a member of an independent workinggroup for the Prime Minister’s Science, Engineering <strong>and</strong> Innovation Council (PMSEIC)which prepared a report on Climate change in <strong>Australia</strong>: Regional impacts <strong>and</strong>adaptation. Don has had wide experience in the <strong>Australia</strong>n Public Service working in a range of organisationsincluding the Productivity Commission, National Competition Council, Department of Environment <strong>and</strong>Heritage <strong>and</strong> the <strong>Australia</strong>n Bureau of Meteorology.
