COURSE DESCRIPTIONSHI 420 Senior Thesis in History (4 SH)This course is primarily the opportunity for a history student tochoose a topic or subject and put to use all he or she has learnedabout the craft, science and art of history, to demonstrate his orher growing competence in the field by researching and writing ahistorical research paper.HUMANITIES (HU)HU 110 First-Year Experience: Critical Inquiry (1 SH)Pre-Requisite(s): Freshman StatusA course designed to engage students in a successful first-yearexperience through critical thinking. Transition to college,introduction to <strong>College</strong> services, exploration of majors andenhancement of leadership skills as well as the development ofrealistic personal goals will be the focus. During this course,students will build upon their identified personal strengths andinterests to develop a service project.HU 111 First-Year Experience: Application (1 SH)Pre-Requisite(s): HU 110A course designed to engage students in a successful first-yearexperience through critical thinking and application of personalstrengths and interests. During this course, students will workwith <strong>College</strong> faculty and staff as well as community organizationsto implement a specific service project. Application of individualpersonal strengths and leadership skills will be the focus of thecourse.HU 120 Travels Through Time and Space (4 SH)An interdisciplinary humanities course that will guide studentsthrough a reading of at least two challenging texts (one classical,the other modern) which address common issues from differentperspectives. Students are expected to gain understanding of thenature of liberal education; the process of critical thinking; thevalue of different approaches to a single subject; the lastingimpact of important works and ideas and variations inperspectives within different cultures.HU 125 Critical Thinking through Controversy (4 SH)This course applies critical thinking methods and problem solvingtechniques to a wide range of contemporary controversial issuesfacing a global society. Toward the goal of formulating possibleresolutions, each issue will be probed with the tools ofinterdisciplinary thought and scientific method.INTEGRATED MEDIA (IM)IM 2<strong>07</strong> Digital Photography and Imaging (4 SH)The course Digital Photography and Imaging serves as anintroduction to the world of digital photography and computergraphics and as a prerequisite for future photography andcomputer graphic classes in general. This software program usedis the industry standard for all digital image manipulation andediting and is an important tool that the students should becomfortable with both a photography or computer graphicsrelated field. Cross-listed as AT 2<strong>07</strong>.IM 230 2D & 3D Animation (4 SH)Pre-Requisite(s): AT 110This course will serve as an introduction to the world of 2D and3D computer-generated graphics with a focus on drawing,modeling and animation. Form visualization principles practicedin the fields of design, drawing and digital sculpture will becovered including basic approaches to model surfacing, lightingand presentation. The course will then progress to the basicprinciples of timing and motion through the production of twoand three-dimensional computer-generated animation. Thecourse will prepare you for work ranging from instructionalanimations to entertainment media including feature films andvideo games. Cross listed as AT 230.IM 231 Video Editing and DVD Authoring (4 SH)Pre-Requisite(s): IM 2<strong>07</strong>This course is an introduction to video editing using industrystandard software. The entire workflow will be covered fromplanning a video shoot, filming the shoot and then editing thefootage, including adding special effects. This course will prepareyou for work in making commercials, web video, broadcast,entertainment films and/or art films. In addition, the process ofauthoring your video on an Interactive DVD will be covered.Cross listed as AT 231.IM 301 New Media Art: Robotic Art (4 SH)Pre-Requisite(s): AT 103 or AT 114This studio course will explore electronic techniques, new mediasculptures, experimental computer graphics and current media inthe field. This course will progress with the use of aprogrammable micro-controller for development of interactiveartworks, kinetic sculpture, sound works, light art andperformance environments. Input sensors like infrared,ultrasonic and limit switches will be used with output devices likeservo-motors, DC motors, speakers, relays and power transistors.Slide lectures, video and web sources will allow the evolution ofartistic and conceptual approaches to the development ofinteractive art and environments.IM 201 Programming for Artists (4 SH)This course will focus on programming for art applications. Thecourse will explore creative and experimental algorithms tocreate visual, audio or physical structures.
