COURSE DESCRIPTIONSIM 310 Video Game Production (4 SH)Pre-Requisite(s): IM 2<strong>07</strong>, AT 110This course is an introduction to video game design andproduction on the computer. The class will focus on the theory ofgame design and animation and will work towards creating a 2Dgame that can be a narrative journey, educational (seriousgames), and/or puzzle. Programmers, artists, musicians, writers,dancers, performers are encouraged to learn how their skillsapply to this growing field. The course will focus on thedevelopment pipeline for game creation, innovative game playand production values.IM 311 Instructional Technologies/Serious Games (4 SH)Pre-Requisite(s): IM 2<strong>07</strong>This course is an introduction to creating instructional modulesfor web-based and CD-based interactive teaching. The class willcover effective instructional media and animation and will worktowards creating a 2D interactive module that can be a linearinstructional animation, an interactive educational game, or asimulation. Topics can span all majors and may include animatingbiological processes, simulating a micro economy or creating aneducational equine learning video game. The course will focus onthe development pipeline for asset creation, engaging media andproduction values.IM 330 Web Design, Production and Interactive Art (4 SH)Pre-Requisite(s): AT 102, IM 2<strong>07</strong>This course will focus on web design, production and interactiveart within the realm of the World Wide Web. The course willexplore the Internet as a medium for art, as a space foradvertisement and commercial applications AND as a location todeliver information while utilizing the artistic possibilities ofHTML, Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Flash. Cross listed as AT330.IM 400 Multidisciplinary Art and Digital Performance (4 SH)Pre-Requisite(s): Junior or Senior standing (Sophomore bypermission)This course explores experimental and traditional work ofintegrating digital technologies into visual, dance, music andtheater performances. This includes working with digitalprojections, real-time processing of data (i.e. music dataconnected and controlling visual display or devices controllinginstruments/sounds), sensors, motion tracking via software andother emerging technologies. Specific focus will vary from term toterm.IS 212 Intercultural Studies: Civilization (4 SH)This course is undertaken while the student is in a study centerabroad. It involves a structured and supervised investigation intothe general cultural differences observed, culminating in aproject related to specific investigations.IS 300/301 Intercultural Relationships I, II (2, 2 SH)Pre-Requisite(s): IS 300This intercultural course is designed to prepare students for aliving and study experience in a foreign environment. Lectures,presentations and discussion groups are scheduled. They aim atgiving the students the basic background for exploring furtherthe cultural heritage and transformation of the host country.They also aim at overcoming preconceived notions by makingstudents aware of changes in family structure, peer relationships,social and political attitudes. During the second term, a journal orsketchbook, kept abroad, is used as one of the measures of thestudents’ growth and perceptiveness of self and environment.The first course is normally offered on the campus in the fall. Thesecond course is ordinarily completed during the spring termabroad.IS 305 Professional Culture (4 SH)This course examines the mechanics of professional interactionwithin an international context, both in the U.S. and abroad.Selecting a specific ethnic group and its culture, students willexplore the intricacies of a professional relationship withmembers of this group. An interactive, discussion-driven learningenvironment, the involvement of guest presenters and a focus onfield observation at internationally focused workplaces in thearea will provide excellent academic opportunities for students.ITALIAN (IT)IT 101 Beginning Italian I (4 SH)Fundamentals of written and spoken language.
