CAMPUS INFORMATIONmembers of the United States Armed Forces, Reserve Units,National Guard and other such military organizations.Students who are called to active-duty during the semester mustcontact the Veteran Education & Transition Support (V.E.T.S.)Program Coordinator to discuss procedures related to theirenrollment as soon as possible after their orders have beenreceived. A copy of the order will be required for the official file.Each student's circumstances will be evaluated individually bythe V.E.T.S. Program Coordinator, who will then work with theAssociate Registrar, Bursar and Financial Aid Office to determinethe most beneficial action for the student.Options include:• Complete withdrawal, backdated to start of term, with100% refund;• Subject to the approval of the appropriate facultymember, continued enrollment with special gradingoptions of Pass-Fail, Non-Credit, audit, or awarding of agrade of I (incomplete);• Subject to the approval of the appropriate facultymember, continued enrollment through electronicparticipation, which may or may not require anadjustment of course assignments; and• Any other action deemed appropriate.Students who are called to active-duty and are away from <strong>Lake</strong><strong>Erie</strong> <strong>College</strong> for more than four consecutive semesters will begrandfathered into the academic catalog in force on theiracademic record at the time of departure for duty. Studentsmust resume classes within 12 months of their return fromactive-duty in order to qualify for this exception.<strong>Lake</strong> <strong>Erie</strong> <strong>College</strong> limits academic residency to no more thantwenty-five percent of the degree requirements for all degreesfor active-duty service members (32 semester credits of therequired 128 for degree completion). Academic residency can becompleted at any time while active-duty service members areenrolled. All active-duty members of the Armed Services of theUnited States are covered under this policy.<strong>Lake</strong> <strong>Erie</strong> <strong>College</strong> recognizes and uses the ACE Guide to evaluateeducational experiences in the Armed Services for the purpose ofdetermining the value of learning acquired during militaryservice. Credit is awarded consistent with ACE Guiderecommendations and/or those transcripted by the Community<strong>College</strong> of the Air Force, when applicable to a service member’sprogram. Official transcripts are required to receive credit.CAMPUS FACILITIESThe George M. Humphrey Equestrian CenterThe George M. Humphrey Equestrian Center is the home of theEquine Studies Program at <strong>Lake</strong> <strong>Erie</strong> <strong>College</strong>. The new LearningCenter was completed in 2009, and provides state of the artclassroom and laboratory space for the academic program inEquine Studies. Equine Studies faculty and staff offices are alsolocated in the Learning Center. The Learning Center serves as a“home base” for Equine Studies students, with a computer laband a very popular student lounge overlooking the main indoorarena. The Equestrian Center is located approximately 5 milesfrom the main campus. Shuttle service is provided for studentsMonday through Saturday during the school year.The Equestrian Center houses all of the equestrian activities andfacilities at <strong>Lake</strong> <strong>Erie</strong> <strong>College</strong>. The 86-acre facility offerspermanent stabling for up to 95 horses in two barns, includingschool horses and student and faculty boarders. We also havetemporary stabling for 39 additional horses during horse shows.Our turn out facilities includes grass and all weather paddockswith electric and vinyl fences.A breeding laboratory in the school barn contains space andequipment for students to learn and practice all aspects ofmodern breeding management including collection of theschool’s stallions, the evaluation and processing of cooledsemen, teasing mares and artificial insemination. Courseworkand practical laboratory experience at the Equestrian Centerprovide opportunities for students to utilize industry bestpractices in the day to day management of our equestrianfacilities.Our facilities provide many riding and showing venues for ourstudents. Our 100’ x 225’ indoor arena with seating for 700spectators has an attached 70’ x 130’ warm-up arena. We alsohave four outdoor rings including a lighted 225’ x 100 ‘ enclosedoutdoor arena, a hunt field with cross country jumps and arecently renovated multi-tier bank. Throughout the year, we hostseveral dressage and hunter/jumper shows, as well as clinics withprofessional horsemen. Information regarding upcoming showsand clinics is available on our web site atwww.lec.edu/equestrian events.Fine and Performing Arts<strong>Lake</strong> <strong>Erie</strong> <strong>College</strong> prides itself on its excellent facilities for the fineand performing arts.
