ACADEMIC POLICIESemail and by U.S. Mail that the student has beenrecommended for expulsion for academic dishonesty.The Academic Standards Committee will meet to reviewthe file and determine whether to implement theexpulsion or take other appropriate action. TheAcademic Standards Committee will record the outcomeof its decision in the student’s file with a copy to theVPAA and the Registrar. The Registrar will formallynotify the student of the <strong>College</strong>’s decision and include adescription of the appeals procedure.Specific Offense Appeals Procedure:1. The student must first contact the faculty member in anattempt to resolve the issue. Students must contact thatfaculty member immediately upon receiving notificationof the imposed penalty for academic dishonesty.2. If the issue is not resolved to the student’s satisfaction,he or she must appeal to the Dean of the area.3. If the issue is still not resolved to the student’ssatisfaction, he or she must appeal in writing to theAcademic Standards Committee (ASC) within one monthof receiving notification of the imposed penalty foracademic dishonesty. The student must presentcompelling documentation in writing.Expulsion Appeals Procedure:1. A student who receives a letter notifying him/her ofexpulsion from <strong>Lake</strong> <strong>Erie</strong> <strong>College</strong> for academicdishonesty will have fourteen (14) business days fromthe date of the letter to submit an appeal to the VPAA.To fi le an appeal, the student must provide evidencedemonstrating that he/she was not provided adequateprocess or that there was some serious injustice in thedecision.2. The VPAA will provide a copy of the student’s appeal tothe Academic Standards Committee of the appeal. TheCommittee will provide a written rationale for theexpulsion to the VPAA within fourteen (14) days.3. The VPAA will then render a decision on the student’sappeal within fourteen (14) business days of receivingthat information from the Academic StandardsCommittee. The VPAA’s decision regarding an expulsionis final.4. Expulsion is effective immediately upon notification tothe student by the Registrar, even when the studentappeals. Thus, a student may not attend classes whilehis/her appeal is under consideration by the VPAA.GRADUATIONLatin HonorsGraduation honors are given to students who have completed aminimum of 64 SH in residence with the following cumulativegrade point averages:3.80 - 4.00 Summa Cum Laude3.60 - 3.79 Magna Cum Laude3.50 - 3.59 Cum LaudeLatin honors are awarded at the time of degree completion. Latinhonors are not recognized for students who choose toparticipate in the commencement ceremony prior to degreecompletion.Senior Residence RequirementCandidates for a degree must take 32 of their last 36 semesterhours at <strong>Lake</strong> <strong>Erie</strong> <strong>College</strong>. Degrees are not granted in absentiaunless a special petition to the faculty is approved.Graduation Requirements<strong>Lake</strong> <strong>Erie</strong> <strong>College</strong> awards the degrees of Bachelor of Arts,Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Master of Educationand Master of Business Administration. General educationrequirements are the same for all bachelor’s degrees; the degreeawarded is determined by the student’s major field of study. It isthe responsibility of the student to be sure that all degree andmajor requirements are fulfilled by graduation.Candidates for all bachelor’s degrees must:1. Complete 128 semester hours of credit with a gradepoint average of 2.0 or higher; 32 semester credits ofthe student’s last 36 semester credits must be taken at<strong>Lake</strong> <strong>Erie</strong> <strong>College</strong>.2. Complete the general education requirements (basicproficiencies and core requirements) described in thissection of the catalog.3. Complete the requirements for the major field of studyidentified in the section of the catalog entitledRequirements for the Academic Major. A cumulativegrade point average of 2.0 or higher in all major coursesis required.Candidates for graduation must apply by completing the requiredforms which are available in the Registrar’s Office.
