CO-CURRICULAR LIFEbe in good academic standing maintaining a minimum 2.0 GPA.Internships represent academic courses and students must beregistered for academic credit for their internship at the sametime they are performing the hours.<strong>Lake</strong> <strong>Erie</strong> <strong>College</strong> utilizes the Storm Career Network powered by<strong>College</strong> Central, an online employment database whereemployers can post job and internship opportunities as well asregister to search the resumes of students and alumni who haveposted on the site. Students looking for employment possibilitiescan search through the jobs and internships that have beenposted as well as apply for them online. More information on allof the services and programs available through Career Servicescan be found at www.lec.edu/career.Residence LifeLife in the residence halls is a living learning experience. It is inthis environment that students have the opportunity to form asense of community, to meet people of varied backgrounds andto make lasting friendships. The residential community consistsof four halls and a number of apartment complexes close to thecampus. All students share some common facilities, includingkitchen, laundry, bathrooms and lounge areas. In the halls,Residence Directors serve as advisors, counselors andadministrators of the hall. Student Resident Assistants work withthe Residence Directors to maintain a healthy living/ learningenvironment.Residence hall living requires each resident to assume certaingroup and individual responsibilities. Each student is expected toattend hall meetings, support activities, care for personal and<strong>College</strong> property, abide by <strong>College</strong> and hall policies and showrespect for the rights and property of other residents.Students who are under the age of 22 years, below 64 creditsand whose established residence is outside a 50-mile radius ofthe <strong>College</strong> are required to reside on campus. Exceptions aremade for those students who are married. Students wishing topetition for an exemption to the residency requirement whointend to reside with a close adult relative must provide a writtenrequest from their parent or guardian to the Student Life Office.Students reaching the age of 23 years by August 15 prior to thestart of the fall semester can be granted residency status on aspace-available basis after all students whose on-campusresidence is required have been accommodated.All resident students are required to participate in one of the<strong>College</strong> meal plans.Page | 14OrientationIn order to help new students familiarize themselves with life at<strong>Lake</strong> <strong>Erie</strong> <strong>College</strong> and to acquaint them with the campus, itsfacilities, services and staff, as well as the rigors of college life,the <strong>College</strong> conducts a mandatory New Student Orientation priorto the start of classes. The programs touch on every aspect of the<strong>College</strong>, both curricular and co-curricular, of interest and concernto new students and their families.Student Vehicles & Parking on CampusVehicle RegistrationAll vehicles on campus and in <strong>College</strong>-leased apartment areas,are required to be registered with Security within the first weekof the semester. A permit decal will be issued and must bedisplayed on the vehicle at all times. There is no charge for thefirst permit; however, there is a $5.00 charge for each additionalor replacement permit. When registering a vehicle, the licenseplate number, make, model and color of the vehicle are needed.The <strong>College</strong> is not responsible for lost or stolen items or damageto vehicles parked on campus. Vehicle owners are required tohave adequate insurance as required by State Law. CampusSecurity recommends every student to have an extra set of keysavailable in case keys are locked inside of the vehicle. Securitymay not be able to assist with unlocking the vehicle. Painesvillepolice are not able to assist with vehicle lockouts. Studentsshould refer to the Security tab of the <strong>Lake</strong> <strong>Erie</strong> <strong>College</strong> web page(www.lec.edu), or the bulletin board located outside of theSecurity Office for information concerning Rules and Regulationsconcerning parking on campus.Citations and TowingParking on the grass, in a fire lane, on the sidewalk or in areserved space will result in vehicles being towed at the owner’sexpense. This includes <strong>College</strong>-leased apartment areas. Citationsand fines are issued for violations; repeat violations result in thedoubling of the previous fine. Fines are automatically billed tothe student’s account and can be paid at the Accounting windowin <strong>College</strong> Hall. Driveways in front of the residence halls are forloading and unloading. Students are permitted to park for amaximum of 15 minutes and must have flashers on at that time.Guest ParkingGuests of residential students must register their vehicle withSecurity to obtain a temporary guest registration permit that isdisplayed. Applications for the guest registration tag areobtained from the student life office.
