CO-CURRICULAR LIFEOn the southwest end of campus, Ritchie Athletic Training Centerhouses the 4,700-square foot varsity weight room and staffoffices for football and swimming. On the lower level, the RitchiePool serves as a practice and training site for the swim teams.The Garfield Center is home to Storm wrestling offices andpractice room as well as offices for both men's and women'ssoccer programs.Varsity Teams<strong>Lake</strong> <strong>Erie</strong> offers 23 varsity sports for the <strong>2012</strong>-13 athletic year,twelve for men and eleven for women. In the fall, there arefootball, men's and women's soccer, women's volleyball, men'sand women's cross country, men's and women's golf andwomen's tennis. Men's and women's basketball and swimmingand diving are offered in the winter, as well as wrestling andmen's and women's indoor track. Baseball, softball, men's andwomen's lacrosse, men's tennis and men's and women's outdoortrack are the spring sports.General admission to ticketed, regular season, on-campus eventsis free for current students. Tickets, when necessary, may bepicked up with a valid student identification card. <strong>Lake</strong> <strong>Erie</strong>'steams compete at the NCAA Division II level. The institution is amember of the Great <strong>Lake</strong>s Intercollegiate Athletic Conference(GLIAC) for all sports except men's lacrosse (East Coast AthleticConference Division II Lacrosse League). The <strong>College</strong> is also amember of the East Coast Athletic Conference (ECAC) and <strong>Lake</strong><strong>Erie</strong>'s teams compete for berths in the various ECAC post-seasontournaments.Nickname and Colors<strong>Lake</strong> <strong>Erie</strong> teams are called the Storm. The name was selected asthe result of a contest, which took place when the institutionbecame fully coeducational in the late 1980s. Previously, <strong>Lake</strong><strong>Erie</strong>'s teams were known as the Unicorns. The official team colorsfor all Storm teams are green and white, with black as atrim/accent color. Branding, image and logo guidelines can befound on the department's website (see below). Unauthorizeduse of logos and colors is prohibited.Athletic WebsiteThe home of <strong>Lake</strong> <strong>Erie</strong> Athletics online iswww.<strong>Lake</strong><strong>Erie</strong>Storm.com. The site features news andinformation on all 23 teams, blogs, videos, live broadcasts andmore. There is information for current and future studentathletes,parents, fans and visitors. In addition, fans and studentscan follow the Storm on a variety of social networking sites likeTwitter (www.twitter.com/lecsports), Facebook (search <strong>Lake</strong> <strong>Erie</strong><strong>College</strong> Athletics), You Tube (lakeeriestorm) and Ustream.IntramuralsA variety of intramural sport offerings are posted throughout theacademic year. Typically, competition is available in volleyball,basketball, dodgeball and indoor soccer, as well as other sports.Club SportsThough not operated directly by the Department of Athletics,sports participation at the club level has previously includedsports such as fencing and rowing. When interest warrants, othersports may be added at the club level.RecreationUse of the athletic facilities for fitness and recreation is offeredto current students, during posted days and hours, with a valid<strong>Lake</strong> <strong>Erie</strong> <strong>College</strong> ID. Lockers and locker room facilities areavailable on a daily-use basis. Users must supply their owntowels and way to secure their belongings, if unattended.Personal items are not to be left in a locker room overnight, evenif secured in a locker.Accommodations for Students with Disabilities<strong>Lake</strong> <strong>Erie</strong> <strong>College</strong> does not discriminate in its recruitment,admission or treatment of students.
