Course Descriptions • 380BA 454 Innovation and Design ThinkingThis course will enhance students’ ability to use design methodologies and tools for identifying and developinginnovation and growth opportunities for business. This applied learning course will introduce students to designbasedapproaches that enhance business model innovation, expand students’ understanding of innovation for valuecreation beyond product development, strengthen individual and collaborative competencies for working throughthe design process, and develop the ability to translate broadly defined opportunities into actionable innovationpossibilities and recommendations. Prerequisite: BSB senior-level standing. Three credits.BA 455 International BusinessThe growth and development of the multi-national corporation is the focus of this course, with attention given tothe organizational and staffing problems that occur in the corporation's international role. The impact ofdifferences in customs, mores, habits and their historical basis, economic and political systems, tax structures,religious beliefs, and societal expectations on the business firm when it crosses its national boundaries are studied.Prerequisites: BA 307, BA 212, BA 330 and BA 360. Three credits.BA 456 Seminar in International BusinessThis seminar provides an opportunity for students to experience firsthand business operations in varyinginternational settings. The seminar will include preparatory classes and lectures, meetings with professors andsenior managers of enterprises in the countries visited, and concluding with classes and lectures and a major termpaper. Prerequisite: BSB junior-level or senior-level standing. Three credits.BA 457 Entrepreneurship LawIn our complex business world, entrepreneurs face unique legal challenges as they develop start-up businesses andother enterprises. This course prepares entrepreneurs to identify legal issues and avoid legal pitfalls through amulti-disciplinary lens. The course emphasizes practical aspects of start-ups and growth through and up to an IPO.Prerequisite: BA 303. Three credits.BA 458 New Venture Creation and LaunchThis course is a practical guide to starting a new business, providing students with exposure to every crucial aspectof the entrepreneurship experience. From the initial phase of evaluating a business idea to the actual businesslaunch, students are introduced to the frameworks, complemented by practical advice and guidelines, providestudents with a solid foundation to launch their own businesses while understanding the various risks their startupmay face. For those who do not plan to launch a new business, skills learned can be used in their corporate andnon-profit careers. Prerequisites: BA 112, BA 303, and BA 360. Corequisite: BA 393. Three credits.BA 460 Marketing and Brand StrategyPresents brand identity fundamentals and a comprehensive dynamic process for developing and maintainingsuccessful brands. From researching the competition to translating the vision of the CEO to designing andimplementing an integrated brand identity program, the process is presented through a step-by-step approach.Topics include research and analysis, brand and identity strategy, brand identity design, brand identity applications,brand asset management as well as standards, guidelines, trademark and other applicable laws. Case studies fromsmall and large businesses are employed to portray the brand identity process in action. Prerequisite: BA 360.Three credits.BA 464 International MarketingIntroduction to international marketing for business-to-business and business-to-consumer markets. Course willinclude examination of cultural, legal, social, environmental and economic trends impacting marketing; internationalmarketing research (primary and secondary research methods); the international marketing mix (product,pricing/INCOTERMS, distribution systems, promotion/branding); marketing strategy development, including marketentry and penetration; and ethical issues in international marketing. Implications for small and large businesses willbe examined in each case. Prerequisite: BA 360. Three credits.BA 470 Current Issues in Health Care ManagementThrough the media of reading, lectures and presentations, students will be exposed to many of the challengesfacing the health care delivery system in relation to its environment. These areas will include organization fordelivery of health care services, financing, political and social issues. Ethical considerations in delivery of health carewill be addressed. The student will become a more knowledgeable user of health care services. Three credits.
