Tuition and Fees • 86Tuition Proration PolicyStudents withdrawing from the university during the published add/drop period will be fullyrefunded tuition, fees and housing charges.For students withdrawing after the add/drop period, tuition will be pro-rated accordingly.The amount of tuition will be calculated on a pro rata basis through the first 60 percent ofthe term. After 60 percent of the term has been completed, the student will be responsiblefor all tuition charges assessed. Tuition charges and awarded financial aid will be proratedbased on the withdrawal date provided by the student on the withdrawal/leave of absenceform or the last date of attendance as recorded in the Registrar’s Office.The determination of the payment period attended by the student will be calculated asfollows:Number of days completed = the % of term completedTotal number of days in termThis percentage will determine the amount of tuition charges that the student isresponsible for paying. If the percentage is 60 percent or higher, the student is responsiblefor 100 percent of tuition charges assessed.Curriculum/Mandatory Fee Refund PolicyCurriculum/mandatory fees are refunded only to students who withdraw during theadd/drop period. After the add/drop period, curriculum/mandatory fees are non-refundable.Medical WithdrawalsStudents withdrawing from the university for medical reasons will be dealt with on an individualbasis. The student must first contact the Director of the Wilkins Wellness Center todiscuss the reason for the medical withdrawal. If the reason meets the criteria per policy, aphysician or psychiatrist must provide confidential written documentation in support of amedical withdrawal. The Director of the Wilkins Wellness Center or Director of CounselingCenter will approve or disapprove a medical withdrawal based on the information provided,with final approval from the vice president for academic affairs.Distribution of Financial Aid FundsFinancial aid funds applied to a student’s account will be returned to the appropriate programin accordance with mandatory federal, state, private organizations and ShenandoahUniversity requirements. Any remaining amount of credit will then be applied to unpaidcharges on the student's account with any remaining funds being refunded to the student.It is possible for students whose accounts were paid in full at the start of a term to owepayment for the balance of charges after the return of financial aid funds.Residence Hall Proration PolicyResidence hall charges are refunded on a pro rata basis of <strong>15</strong> weeks per term when astudent withdraws from the university. Students that vacate the residence hall without priorapproval or are removed from the residence halls for disciplinary reasons will not berefunded. Residence hall damage deposits will be fully refunded provided no damages haveoccurred and all financial obligations to the university are satisfied.
Tuition and Fees • 87Shenandoah University reserves the right to hold transcripts, diplomas and other pertinentinformation until all financial obligations to the university have been satisfied. In additionstudents are prohibited from attending classes for a future term when an unpaid balancefrom a prior term exists.
