Course Descriptions • 408HIST 381 British HistoryA survey of British history from prehistoric Britain to the House of Windsor. Emphasis will be placed on thesignificance of British history for understanding American social and political institutions. Prerequisites: HIST 101,HIST 102 and HIST 103. Three credits.HIST 391 Asian HistoryAn introduction to the cultural and historical experience of Pacific Rim countries, particularly China, Japan, Koreaand Indonesia. Attention will also be paid to the emerging role of Pacific Rim countries in contemporary worldaffairs. Three credits.HIST 395 Topics in HistorySelected topics in history for reading, discussion, and writing. Three credits.HIST 401 Internship in HistoryExperience in historic site administration and public history, gained through employment at historic sites, archives,and societies. May be repeated once. Prerequisites: HIST 101, HIST 102, HIST 103, HIST 104 and permission of theinstructor. Three or six credits.HIST 445 Renaissance and ReformationAn analysis of the Renaissance in Italy and Northern Europe and the Protestant and Catholic Reformations. Threecredits.HIST 495 Senior ThesisThis course serves as the capstone activity for all History majors. Students will complete the research, writing andpresentation, under faculty supervision, of a major research paper initiated during one of their 300-level or aboveelective courses. Prerequisites: HIST 201 and a 300-level or above HIST course. Three credits.HUMANITIES (HU)HU 295 TopicsStudy of specific topics, issues or themes within the humanities. Three credits.HU 495 Advanced TopicsStudy of advanced specific topics, issues or themes in the humanities. Three credits.INFORMATION SYSTEMS AND TECHNOLOGIES (IST)IST 204 Computer Applications in Business AnalysisA laboratory course that introduces the student to the Internet and productivity software that are used as tools inbusiness problem-solving activities and analysis. It provides a working knowledge of a commercial spreadsheetpackage to include designing a variety of worksheets, business applications, preparing graphs, working withdatabase query, macro writing and menu techniques to support business analysis and decision making. Emphasis ison understanding, using, and applying these productivity tools to business analysis. Three credits.IST 307 Object Oriented ProgrammingThis course is designed to serve as an introduction to computer programming in the business environment with aview toward the understanding and learning of the fundamentals of software development. The course is aninformation systems approach to object oriented programming. The course is also designed to develop a basic andgeneric foundation in object oriented programming. The course content will include creating simple applications,storing and manipulating data in objects, and changing the program flow with decision. Other areas to be coveredwill include program loops, encapsulation, arrays and collections, user interface objects, database connectivity andinheritance and polymorphism. Prerequisite: IST 204. Three credits.
