Students are givensituational opportunities to assess risk, make ethical decisions, and provide coaching to fellow ROTCstudents. MSC IV Cadets are measured by their ability both to give and receive systematic and specificfeedback on leadership abilities. Cadets at the MSC IV level analyze and evaluate the leadership values,attributes, skills, and actions of MSC III Cadets while simultaneously considering their own leadershipskills. Attention is given to preparation for BOLC II and the development of leadership abilities. Three (3)lecture hours and one (1) laboratory hour per week. This course is offered every fall semester.MSC 402 LEADERSHIP IN A COMPLEX WORLD3 s.h.Explores the dynamics of leading in the complex situations of current military operations in the COE.Cadets examine differences in customs and courtesies, military law, principles of war, and rules ofengagement in the face of international terrorism. They also explore aspects of interacting withnongovernmental organizations, civilians on the battlefield, and host nation support. The course placessignificant emphasis on preparing Cadets for their first unit of assignment. It uses case studies, scenarios,and “What Now, Lieutenant?” exercises to prepare Cadets to face the complex ethical and practicaldemands of leading as commissioned officers in the United States Army. Three (3) lecture hours and one(1) laboratory hour per week. This course is offered every spring semester.MSC 421 THE AMERICAN MILITARY EXPERIENCE3 s.h.American military history from the Colonial Period to the present with emphasis on the interrelationship ofwar and society. Open to all students. Cross listed as HIS 421. This course is offered every fall semester.AFROTC COOPERATIVE PROGRAM WITH FAYETTEVILLE STATEUNIVERSITYLieutenant Colonel Evangeline Cheeks, Coordinator<strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> has a cross-enrollment agreement with Fayetteville State <strong>University</strong>, whereby<strong>Methodist</strong> students can pursue a commission in the United States Air Force and Fayetteville State studentscan pursue a commission in the United States Army. <strong>Methodist</strong> students can enroll in courses conductedby the Department of Aerospace Studies at Fayetteville State <strong>University</strong>. The full-time day student is notcharged additional tuition for an AFROTC course unless the number of semester hours he/she is takingexceeds eighteen. Then the student must pay the regular academic rate for each semester hour beyond theeighteen-hour full-time load. See the ROTC Department at <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> for additionalinformation about these programs.Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) at Detachment 607 is a voluntary educationalprogram designed to provide <strong>University</strong> students an opportunity to earn an Air Force commission whilesimultaneously working toward a degree. The AFROTC Mission is to produce leaders for the Air Forceand build better citizens for America. There are primarily two routes to an Air Force commission forcollege students through the Air Force Senior ROTC Program: the four-year program and the two-yearprogram. Student enroll in Air Force ROTC classes at the same time and in the same manner as for othercollege courses. Classes are taught in the Women’s Gym on the Campus of Fayetteville State <strong>University</strong>.Four-Year ProgramThe first two years of the Air Force ROTC four-year program, the General Military Course (GMC),consist on one hour of classroom work and one to two hours of leadership laboratory each week. Uponcompletion of the General Military Course (GMC) requirements, cadets who wish to compete for entry intothe last two years of the program, the Professional Officers Course (POC), must do so under the158
