No quality points awarded.FailureGrade Change PolicyGrades of “A” through “F” are permanent grades and may not be changed except when assigned inerror. All grade changes must be approved by the Vice President for Academic Affairs. A grade changemust be made before the end of the next semester, excluding the summer semester. For example, a fallgrade change must be made by the end of the following spring semester. A spring grade change must bemade by the end of the following fall semester. A summer grade change must be made by the end of thefollowing fall semester.It is the responsibility of the student to check his/her grade report or transcript for errors. A studentwho believes he/she has been assigned a grade in error must appeal a grade before the end of the nextsemester, excluding the summer semester.Assignment of Incompletes PolicyAn I grade is awarded when extenuating circumstances warrant an extension of time for completion ofthe course. The course work must be completed within a reasonable period, as set by the instructor, not toexceed the end of the next academic semester, not including the summer semester; otherwise, the I gradebecomes an F grade. The criteria for assigning an incomplete grade are as follows:1. A student should be passing the course with at least a D grade.2. Students must discuss with their instructors the need for an I grade before one can beassigned. If the I grade is assigned, the instructor is required to complete the “Assignment ofIncomplete Grade” form.Grade Appeals and Student ComplaintsShould a student have a grievance which is academic in nature (i.e. with a particular faculty memberregarding a certain course, etc.), the student should complete a <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> Academic GrievanceForm. Forms can be obtained from the Registrar’s Office. Once the grievance form is completed by thestudent, it should be submitted to the faculty member involved, and the student and faculty member shouldmeet to resolve the issue. If no resolution of the issue can be made at this stage, the student should meetwith the faculty member’s immediate supervisor(s). If a supervisor reverses a faculty members decision,the change must be approved by the Vice President for Academic Affairs. If these conferences do notsatisfactorily resolve the issue, the student may request a hearing with the Academic Standards Committee.Students having questions regarding the Academic Grievance Procedure should contact the Office of theVice President for Academic Affairs.Quality PointsTo graduate, a student must complete a minimum of 124 s.h. The minimum grade point average (GPA)is 2.0; the GPA is obtained by dividing the total number of quality points by the total number of hoursattempted. Pass/fail and the first three repeated courses are not included in the calculation of the GPA.Each graduate must also obtain the minimum 2.0 GPA in all courses taken in the major subject area, theconcentration subject area, the minor subject area, and in residency at <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong>. The GPA iscomputed separately for each category.Cancellation of CoursesThe <strong>University</strong> reserves the right to cancel any scheduled course at any time through the first meeting ofthe class. All published class schedules are tentative and are not contractual in nature.The <strong>University</strong> reserves the right to cancel or discontinue any course because of insufficient enrollmentor for other reasons. In order to assure quality education, the <strong>University</strong> reserves the right to limit furtherregistrations when the maximum number set by the department has been reached. The <strong>University</strong> reservesthe right to make changes in schedules and/or faculty when necessary.20
