UNIVERSITY LIFE AND REGULATIONSThis catalogue is supplemented by other official documents and publications, such as the StudentHandbook, the Faculty Manual, and the official minutes of academic committees.Housing during Holidays and Summer SessionsThe <strong>University</strong> does not assume financial or supervisory responsibilities for students during periodswhen it is closed but often assists students in finding accommodations in the Fayetteville area and, for anominal fee, can provide transportation at the beginning and end of a holiday period, as needed.Family Educational Rights and Privacy ActAccess to student records is regulated by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (20 U. S. C.1232), FERPA, designed to protect the privacy of the student’s records. <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> compliesfully with this act and categorizes the following as directory information to be released in the best interestsof the student as determined by the <strong>University</strong>: name, address, telephone number, date and place of birth,parents’ names, major field of study, participation in officially recognized activities and sports, most recentprevious educational institution attended, weight and height of members of athletic teams, dates ofattendance at <strong>Methodist</strong>, and degrees and awards received. Under the terms of FERPA, students have theright to withhold disclosure of any or all directory information by filing, annually, non-disclosure requestswith the Registrar. <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> assumes that the absence of such a request indicates studentapproval of disclosure.Any student who is currently enrolled at <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> or who has been previously enrolled hasthe right to review and request the amendment and/or correction of all records pertaining to him/hermaintained by the <strong>University</strong>. The institutional policy statement concerning these and other privacy rightsis the <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> Student Educational Records Privacy Policy (MCSERPP), to be found in theOffice of the Registrar in Horner Administration Building and in the Student Handbook. Students retainthe right to file a complaint with the United States Department of Education alleging a failure of <strong>Methodist</strong><strong>University</strong> to abide by the provisions of FERPA and the enabling regulations.The <strong>University</strong> catalogue constitutes annual notification to students currently in attendance, as well as tothe parents of those students, of their rights under FERPA and MCSERPP.Students desiring to make changes to official records with regard to name, address, student number, anddate of birth, must do so by completing the <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> Information System Data CorrectionForm obtained in the Registrar’s Office.Student Right to Know Act and Campus Security ActThe Student Right to Know Act and Campus Security Act were signed into law in1990, and amended with the Higher Education Technical Amendments of 1991. Section 103 of this actrequires that all institutions of higher learning disclose to current and prospective studentsgraduation/completion rates as of July 1, 1993.
