GLY 160 PHYSICAL GEOLOGY4 s.h.A laboratory-based geology class centered on the study of introductory mineralogy, petrology,geomorphology, and historical and structural geology. Laboratories concentrate on mineral and rockidentification, topographic and geologic map use and interpretation, geologic structures, and geologicinterrelations with the environment. Prerequisites: MATH 105GLY 200 PHYSICAL OCEANOGRAPHY AND METEOROLOGY4 s.h.An introductory geoscience class exploring introductory oceanic and atmospheric science with requiredlaboratory. Laboratories will concentrate on general oceanographic and meteorological concepts. A fieldtrip may be required. Prerequisites: MATH 105 and Instructor’s PermissionGLY 300 PLANETARY GEOLOGY AND ASTRONOMY4 s.h.An introductory geoscience course exploring planetary geology, solar astronomy, stellar astronomy, andcosmology with required laboratory. Laboratories concentrate on remote sensing, image analysis,comparative planetology, and astronomy. Prerequisites: MATH 105 and Instructor’s PermissionGLY 400 ADVANCED GEOLOGY4 s.h.An advanced laboratory-based course concentrating on mineralogy, petrology, stratigraphy, structuralgeology, and tectonics. The geologic framework of North America is the basis for the course. A requiredfield trip and term paper are part of the curriculum. Prerequisites: GLY 160PHYSICSPHY 151 can be combined with SCI 142 or BIO 153 toward the core/general education requirements forthe Bachelor of Arts degree or with two other Science courses toward the Bachelor of Science degree. Itcannot be combined with SCI 143 toward these requirements.PHYSICS COURSESPHY 151 GENERAL PHYSICS I4 s.h.For chemistry, biology, and mathematics majors. Newtonian mechanics, mechanics of solids and fluids,and heat and thermodynamics. Three hours of lecture and three of laboratory each week.
