All upper level classestaught in Spanish.Requirements for the minor in Spanish: 12 s.h. of 300/400 level Spanish courses, including 301 and 305or approved substitute in the case of demonstrated proficiency. All upper level classes taught in Spanish.Requirements for the A.A. concentration: 18 s.h. of Spanish courses, including 301 and 305 or approvedsubstitute in the case of demonstrated proficiency.Placement testing: Students wishing to continue in foreign language must take the department placementtest if they have had more than two years study of the language in high school or can demonstrateproficiency beyond the elementary level. Core requirements are satisfied in accordance with performancefor those continuing with foreign language study. CLEP or ACTFL credit: applied as 1-4 courses (at the100/200 level) in fulfillment of the core/general education requirements.Writing-Enrichment Course: SPA 402SPANISH COURSESA student may not enroll for any 100 or 200 level course if he or she is a native or heritage speaker ofthe target language. Some exceptions to the 200 level may apply with permission of the departmentchair.SPA 101, 102 ELEMENTARY SPANISH I, II4, 4 s.h.Development of the four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Emphasis on verbaland written skills for communicative purposes; the phonetic as well as the phonological features of Spanishare presented and practiced in both courses. Gradual introduction into the linguistic conventions used inthe written form of the language. Each course consists of 4 class hours and 1 unsupervised laboratory hourper week. Prerequisite for 102: SPA 101 or a satisfactory score on the placement test. These courses areoffered every fall and spring semester. No native speakers or Spanish heritage speakers may take thiscourse.SPA 104 CONVERSATIONAL SPANISH I FOR BUSINESS3 s.h.Emphasis is on pronunciation, vocabulary building, basic grammar and basic conversation for studentsstudying business with very basic knowledge of the language. With permission of Chair, may be taken inconjunction with but not in lieu of SPA 101 and/or 102. This course is closed to native or advancedheritage speakers. Class is offered as needed.SPA 106 CONVERSATIONAL SPANISH FOR CRIMINAL JUSTICE3 s.h.Emphasis is on pronunciation, vocabulary building, basic grammar and basic conversation for studentsstudying justice studies with very basic knowledge of the language. With permission of Chair, may betaken in conjunction with but not in lieu of SPA 101 and/or 102. This course is closed to native or advancedheritage speakers. Class is offered as needed.SPA 108 CONVERSATIONAL SPANISH FOR GOLF3 s.h.Emphasis is on pronunciation, vocabulary building, basic grammar and basic conversation for studentsstudying professional golf management with very basic knowledge of the language. With permission ofChair, may be taken in conjunction with but not in lieu of SPA 101 and/or 102. This course is closed tonative or advanced heritage speakers. Class is offered as needed.99
