PXS 209 SPORT PEDAGOGY I3 s.h.The first of three courses in the pedagogy sequence is designed to explore the teaching-learning processand develop teaching skills. This course focuses specifically on the planning and the implementation ofdevelopmentally appropriate physical education programs in the elementary school. The course is alignedwith the NC Healthful Living curriculum. Prerequisite: PXS 203 or permission of the instructor. Thiscourse is offered every spring semester.PXS 217 FIRST AID/CPR2 s.h.Introduction and practice in immediate and temporary care of injuries and sudden illness, includingadministration of CPR. Students seeking CPR certification will be asked to pay a small additional fee. Thiscourse if offered both fall and spring semesters.PXS 240 HUMAN NUTRITION3 s.h.This course discusses the fundamental biochemical and physiological rationale for optimal nutrient intakefor exercise. Applications include exercises of varying intensity and duration, training and recoveryperiods, and various sports. This course is offered both fall and spring semesters.PXS 285 KINETIC HUMAN ANATOMY3 s.h.This course is designed to provide a foundation for students to learn how anatomy affects movement of thehuman body. The course will emphasize surface anatomy and the musculoskeletal system including variousstructures, functions and mechanics of the human body. This course is offered both fall and springsemesters.PXS 286 SURVEY OF HUMAN PHYSIOLOGY & DISEASES3 s.h.This course is designed to prepare Physical Education, and Exercise Science students with the basicknowledge of human physiology and body systems. It will also prepare students to recognize symptoms ofcommon human diseases, recognize factors which can contribute to abnormalities and recognize theresultant complications and dysfunctions. This course is offered both fall and spring semesters.PXS 290 PRINCIPLES OF PHYSICAL CONDITIONING3 s.h.Introduction to basic physical conditioning and fitness concepts. Attention will be given to the developmentof individual fitness programs based on a needs analysis; emphasizing such topics as aerobic and anaerobicexercises, resistance training techniques, specificity, safety and the associated assessment methods andprocedures. This course is a combination of lecture and laboratory activities. Designated writing enrichment course for PhysicalEducation and Exercise Science majors. This course is offered every fall semester.PXS 306 ADAPTED PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND EXERCISE FORSPECIAL POPULATIONS3 s.h.The nature of physical education services, administration and instructional processes for specificdisabilities, including modification of activities, facilities, equipment, and the development of I.E.P.’s.
