Online Course EtiquetteStudents are expected to interact with other students, the instructor, and any teaching assistants ortechnical support staff enrolled in the course, just as they would be expected to do in a traditional classroomsetting. Because online courses contain a combination of communication channels, some public and someprivate, such as e-mail, instant messaging, discussion forums, and chat rooms, inappropriate conduct inthese channels is not allowed. Examples of inappropriate conduct that are never permitted include sexuallyharassing language, racially or ethnically degrading language, profanity, and verbally abusive language.Evidence of any of these is grounds for dismissal from the course by the Assistant Dean for DistanceEducation. In general, the discussion of personal matters, such as questioning a grade, is inappropriate forpublic forums. These matters may be addressed privately through e-mail, provided none of the conductlisted above occurs in that communication. Students withdrawn from a course by the Assistant Dean forDistance Education may appeal for reinstatement to the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs.ORGANIZATIONS AND HONOR SOCIETIESCampus Government and LeadershipOmicron Delta Kappa(national leadership society)Residence Hall AssociationStudent PublicationsCarillon—the student annualsmall TALK—the campus newspaperROTC-Raider TeamStudent Government AssociationTapestry—the literary and art magazineSocial, Recreational, and Entertainment GroupsAlpha Epsilon OmegaSAC (Student Activities Council)Dance TeamPep BandIntramurals, Sports, and Pep ClubsCampus Recreation Intramural ProgramOutdoor Adventure ClubReligious, Service, Honorary, and Professional OrganizationsAccounting ClubMethodist University Democratic PartyAfrican-American Society/Minority Student Marketing ClubAssociationAlpha ChiMethodist University Golf Association(National Honor Scholastic Society)Methodist University Hockey ClubAlpha Phi Sigma (National Criminal Justice Methodist University Investment ClubHonor Society)Methodist University Men’s Volleyball ClubAlpha Psi Omega (National Theatre Honorary Methodist University Model UnitedFraternity)Nations ClubAlpha Sigma Lambda (National Honor Society Methodist University Professional Tennisfor Adult Learners in Continuing Education) AssociationAmerican Marketing Association Collegiant Methodist University Republican ClubChapterMethodist University Sport Management ClubAmerican College of Health Care Executives Methodist University Student AthleticBeta Beta Beta (Science Honorary)Training AssociationChi Delta Chi (Veterans/Family Members Phi Alpha (National Social Work HonorHonor Society)Society)Commuter Student AssociationPhi Alpha Theta (National History Honor Society)Computer Science and Mathematics Club Phi Sigma Iota (Foreign Language Honorary)Crime StoppersPi Sigma Alpha (National Political ScienceCriminal Justice AssociationHonor Society)Delta Mu Delta (National BusinessPsi Chi (Psychology Honor Society)Honor Society)Psychology Club34
