Students will develop andimplement a minimum of two health lesson plans. The role of the classroom teacher in effective physicaleducation instruction and physical activity for all students will also be addressed. Designed for elementaryeducation majors only. This course is offered every spring semester.PXS 312 BASIC BIOMECHANICS3 s.h.The application of mechanical principles to the study of the human body and the performance of motorskills. Prerequisites: ATP/PXS 285 or BIO 306 and MAT 105 or permission of instructor. This course isoffered every fall semester.PXS 340 SPORT PEDAGOGY II3 s.h.This is the second course in the pedagogy sequence and is designed to explore the teaching-learningprocess and develop teaching skills. This course focuses specifically on the planning and implementation ofdevelopmentally appropriate physical education programs in the middle school. The course is aligned withthe NC Healthful Living curriculum. Prerequisites: PXS 209 or permission of the instructor. This course isoffered every fall semester.PXS 341 SPORT PEDAGOGY III3 s.h.This is the third course in the pedagogy sequence and allows teacher candidates to refine their teachingskills prior to student teaching. The course focuses on the high school level of physical education grades (9-12). In high school physical education students develop the skills necessary to become physically active fora lifetime. The course is aligned with the NC Healthful Living curriculum. Prerequisite: PXS 209 and PXS340 or permission of the instructor. This course is offered every spring semester.PXS 373 EXERCISE SCIENCE OBSERVATION1 s.h.Observe professionals in fitness and/or healthcare industries to gain experience working with members ataccredited fitness facilities, medical centers and hospitals. Student will be responsible for assuming aninteractive role during the field experience. A minimum of 40 hours in the field will be required. Thiscourse is offered both fall and spring semesters.PXS 376 CARDIAC REHABILITATION OBSERVATION I1 s.h.Observe professionals in Physical Education and/or healthcare industries to gain experience working withmembers at accredited fitness or facilities, medical centers or assisted living facilities. Student will beresponsible for assuming an interactive role during the field experience. A minimum of 30 hours in thefield will be required. This course is not currently offered.PXS 377 CARDIAC REHABILITATION OBSERVATION II1 s.h.Observe professionals in Physical Education and/or healthcare industries to gain experience working withmembers at accredited fitness facilities, medical centers or assisted living facilities.
